Rivera is an amazing human who is very willing to share a lifetime of knowledge with you, but he has no time for your nonsense. If he thinks you dont care he wont help you. you need to show up to every class or else there is no way to find the material as his slides are just pictures. Sit upfront and answer the questions, you'll be fine.

Most boring professor I think I've ever had. He is awful. His lectures consist of him standing (or sitting) next to a projection screen and he talks in the softest, quietest voice you can imagine. The exams were ridiculously hard b/c it was unclear what we were expected to know and they were 50 short answer wicked specific questions on 300 pages.

His Botany class is interesting and makes you view plants differently. If you attend class and pay attention, you will do alright. You definitely need to study the slides and make sure that you can identify parts of the plant. The first two exams are mostly labeling the parts and explaining a few key topics in a few sentences. Lab is drawing slides

If you are not a Bio major and have not taken a college level Bio course, be forewarned that such intro bio classes are dense. He lectures on all parts of the plant, then he tests you. You need to understand the bio of the plant parts discussed in that section completely to do well. Structure and function, inside and out. If you do, you're fine.

Rivera is the man! Great, funny guy outside of class but it would be more helpful if he spoke up a little more. Attend class and take good notes even though it's hard to do at 8am but his slides are not helpful and the textbook gives more information than what he's looking for. First two exams are all labeling and final is short answer

He stands at the front of the class flipping through hundreds of slides, speaking in a very low, whisper of a voice. Tests are long and difficult. There is too much material to comprehend, and handing out the slides used in class is not enough. It is difficult to learn when the only thing you can study from are powerpoint slides with no context.

This was an upper level grad class that had a lot of reading associated with it. As long as you attend class and do the required reading you will do fine. It was difficult yes but I learned a lot, which speaks volumes considering the quality of other grad courses offered at this institution. Overall, it was a great class.

Terrible teacher. There is no way you can memorize 300 slides to take an exam. No structure whatsoever in his classes. Unless you have photographic memory, have fun labeling diagrams that all look the same. Guarantee you you cant do it

Took Prof. Rivera for Botany this semester. TERRIBLE. First off, he whispers, you can't hear a single word he says. He never uses the book. Doesn't answer questions, and the tests are all diagrams, most of which haven't been taught in class. Guy is a bum. Horrible. Just like 75% of the under-qualified "Professors" at UML.

As long as you attend class and keep up with the readings, you will do well in this class. He teaches based off of pictures and diagrams, which was a little difficult so take good notes. Overall, I really liked this class. Dr. Rivera really knows his stuff.

use the book for mastering bio homework. there are four exams, all based off of the online homework. attendance was mandatory because no one showed up to class, due to his uselessness. easy grade though if you do the homework.

He knows his stuff but his exam is full of complicated topics that are rarely mention in details in the book. Even studying from the book will not help you because his exams consist of proteins and it's reactions and number of bonds. His lectures are useless and the books don't go into detailed as his exams are. Biology should not be THAT hard. UML

Did a good job teaching the material. Its a dry subject, but wasnt that boring. If you paid attention and read the book you did fine. Its a 8am course so people will be sleepy. If you are a slacker you should avoid.

OMG!!! Do yourself a favor and DONT TAKE HIM! It is useless to go to class and take notes cuz his notes are not relevant for the exams sooo if you can memorize a whole science book then take him... Soooo Boring! I mean he seems like a nice person but does not know how to teach!

Tests are miserable. wicked boring class. tests are straight from the book, not from his notes, so class is basicly a waste of time. only good thing is the final is 20 questions from each of the previous tests.. so as long as you study, your fine. i suggest avoiding this teacher alltogether, even though he seems like a very nice guy.
