I've had Professor Newman for 410-430, and I am glad I did. He was very clear in his lectures and you could tell the man loves the subject. I did not come into his class with a love for physics, but he made it very interesting and sparked my curiosity about the subject. I would highly recommend anyone take the 3 semesters of his class!

Lots of fun demos in lecture and lab! Generally lenient on quizzes and exams. Only 2 midterms though so be careful - not a lot of chances to pick up your grade if you do poorly on one (or both). Also, don't blindly copy answers from the solution manual and DO properly fill out hw reports because he does occasionally check hw packets thoroughly!

Pay attention to his demonstration as it sometimes appear on the quiztests. Do and try to undrstand the hw he give you as it is like a reinforcement for you to understand the topic. I enjoyed learning in physics class. He's the reason I'll take advance math class bec he gives math samples that is interesting even if u dont have math background

If you can, take this teacher. I think PHYS 410-430 all have the same grading. HW is 5%, Lab is 10%, Quizzes are 20%, 2 Midterms 20% each, and the final is 25%. His lectures are great. The most important thing to do is HW. Make sure you understand how to do all the problems. If you do, this class will be an easy A.

Excellent Physics prof. Show up, take notes from his powerpoints on the worksheets he gives you, study them. They are basically the quizzes and exams in note form, meaning his tests and quizzes are very easy. He gives you a study guide for the exams. Entertaining and very clear/concise. Overall a great teacher.

This teacher is amazing at teaching. I might be biased because my AP Physics teacher was terrible. Anyway, he explains the concepts very well and is very helpful. Tests and quizzes are straightforward. Sometimes get out of lab an hour early. You can finish basically all lab reports in class since he doesn't require much for them.

Phys 420 with Newman is fun. He really loves teaching, and gives you handouts on practically everything. Not too difficult a class, but you can't really mess up on the tests. There's only two tests at 20% each which isn't much. Other than that, he's good at what he does.

Best teacher ever! I have not taken any science class since high school and I was scare this was going to be hard, but it was the opposite. Great class to take, esspecially if you are only interested in this as a pre- req class. Newman is very clear and concise in his lectures, and can make science understandable to anyone. Bestt teacher ever. All teachers must learn form him. He gives lecture notes and goes by them. Quizes come only every other session, and they have only that material that was lectured in class, as well as exams.interesting teacher.
