Terrifying at first. Makes you read and answer questions out-loud for the class. She explains grammar really well and will teach like 3 chapters of it at the beginning to give more time to practice it. Lots of working with partners on assignments in class. Doesn't grade too harshly if you try your best. Loved her and the people in class by the end

Francesca Novello is a wonderful beginning Italian professor. There is a lot of work involved, but that is the language department's fault, not hers. She is from Italy, and she throws in important cultural points in the lessons. She made sure we were prepared for every test. I would highly recommend her for a beginner.

Comment:

One thing that bothered me the most was she moved on from a topic before everyone even understood it. LOTS of homework. Bad idea to skip the class unless absolutely necessary, you'll miss out on a lot. You'll learn if you put in the time and effort, though. Studying is essential! Don't assume you can breeze by. Did not want to take her class again.

You will learn a lot in this class, but the workload is pretty heavy! You have homework every night, but that also means you get plenty of examples and review material! She is very fair in her grading and helpful if you ask questions!

She is an amazing professor. It really helps that she's a native italian and really knows and loves the language. I found her to be more than fair and extremely helpful. She is one of my favorite professors and I would recommend her to anyone!

She is an amazing teacher who makes sure that everyone understands all of the concepts from the book. She will do example after example to help absolutely everyone. There is almost daily homework but it goes over what was learned in class and is relatively easy. Love her, love the class. Definitely take Italian with Francesca!

I truly enjoyed taking this course! Francesca is native Italian & is very animated when discussing Italian culture & lifestyle. She did not grade daily homework, but if you didn't complete it, you were SOL on understanding the lesson. I have extended experience with Latin, so I found Italian to be very easy. However, several classmates struggled.

She is a very nice woman and a great teacher. You will definitely know some Italian after this class. There is homework almost daily, but it's to reinforce concepts learned in class. My only complaint is this is a Monday-Friday class, but it's not her fault. Other than that, def take Francesca if you want to learn a cool language. She's also funny.

This class was impossible. I was working on a dual major, Spanish being one. I had to have 12 hours of another language but dropped to a Spanish minor. She was so mean to people that didn't get it. I'm not bad a languages she didn't explain things well and go mad if you needed help. I sat next to a National Merit Scholar and she struggled! Avoid!

Francesca is the best Italian teacher I have had (I've had 3) and one of my two favorites in the whole university. She adapts the course for each class and is very friendly and encouraging; she also has a great sense of humor. Although she is a rigorous grader, she is fair and will prepare you for the next course.

Holy moses, this was a difficult class. The tests and quizzes are impossible, and you don't really learn much until the week before the final when it really matters. The whole class was completely lost all semester. Be sure you are a morning person if you take her class!!

I'm good at languages, and I did terribly in her class. The tests were horrible. I would fully understand something, then I would get a bad grade because he put things on there we hadn't covered. Her class screwed up my 4.0
