He is honestly the worst professor, and pretty much just an awful human being. He has no respect for his students and in a way was very verbally combative. He has a huge ego and zero patience. What a nightmare

He took attendance by giving a quiz every class. If you do the assign reading the quizzes are easy. Had a 3pg midterm paper and a 6-8pg final. Easy class.Lectures all of class time, it can get a bit boring at times.

Easiest class you will ever take, period. You DO have to show up to class, but don't even bother buying the textbooks. No, midterm, super easy final. I never even opened the books and I got an A.

He relies little on overheads and power points, but his lectures are some of the best I've been to. The ease of the class helps to make the learning experience more enjoyable for those interested, though also a easy grade for a slacker who just needs some GE's. Plus, his name is Forrest, how could you go wrong?

One of the best and most inspiring teachers I have EVER had. Many people find him boring which honestly boggles my mind. The class is very informative, his lectures are executed eloquently, and he is just an all around entertaining and cool guy. He's been teaching at Santa Cruz since the early 70's.

I took his class for my first year. There is A LOT of reading like any other history class, and it can be hard to catch up on. But he explains things really in depth and he is very helpful if you have questions about anything. It is a lecture though at 8am and i thought that was very hard to stay awake, but he is understandable and brought candy on

He practically gave quizzes every day (and it also counts as ur attendance grade), which means u dont go, u lose most of ur grade!!! Tons of reading. Essay assignments are joke, and some of TA's aren't friendly (since TA's are assigned). Midterms and Finals are like assignments (writing test). I wont recommand if ur writing is not good!!!

Forrest is the best professor I've had at UCSC, hands down. I'm not even an American Studies major and this class was so fun. Be prepared to read a ton, but its all very good relavent reads. Make sure to read for his quizzes. Only two papers assigned. Easy, fun, awesome guy.

He is great. Disregard what those silly little freshmen said about falling asleep in his AMST2 class. U can get a whole lot out of this library disguised as a man. He is very charismatic and fun 2 listen 2. His Twain & America class was amazing - though he may take all the fun out of Twain for you with his bleak interpretations.

very hard to stay awake, he just stands there and talks, no visual aids. mandatory attendance. he gave us very few details about the final. lots of reading and the quizzes sucked bc even if you read you might not get them right. he was also very patronizing at times. it was hard to take any useful notes off of his lecture. not worth it for the GE.

This class caused me to change out of an American Studies major. Beware as to which TA you get b/c he could be too busy to help you. Reading was heavy and the quiz questions (only about 3 per day) were random and although I always did my reading, I would often miss questions. No amount of studying / good attendance guarantees an A!

The Bad: The class was at 8 with mandatory attendance. The Good: Easy class! Prof. Robinson is a great guy, TA's all seemed nice. You could squeeze through the class without doing the reading, but it might getcha on the final. But even then, not so much. Lectures normally cover the reading anyways.. all you have to do is be a morning person I guess

LOTS OF READING. Beware if you a first year. However, if you stay on top of the reading, then everything makes sense. He gives a pop quiz daily to see if you've kept up on the reading. 3 essays due. Required movies. Final is communiation of everything to determine if you have done the reading, so if you don't it will bite you in the ass.

Forrest is a great guy and his lectures are always well organized and always focused. What he has to say is truly important. The paper topics were a little broad sometimes, but he makes them broad in order to accomodate students who want to think outside of the box. A great guy and a nice person to talk outside of class with. What a sweetheart.

Forrest is completely involved in the course material and gives great lectures. No real midterms or tests except for the final, but 3 simple papers reflecting knowledge of material. Quizzes were a daily hamper on the class, and weighted too heavily, but Forrest was forced to take attendance for the 8 am class.
