Super nice and friendly and tries to keep class entertaining. Generally requires participation. No textbooks. Doesn't allow ANY unexcused absences. Since it's a literature class, the material is pretty tough, I recommend taking at least another 3000 level course before this one, but he's very helpful. Take-home quizzes were pretty tough.

Comment:
His French Civ freshman seminar is awful. It's terribly boring and you basically just read the textbook online during the class discussions, and talk about it. He asks for your opinions and thoughts, then looks at you strangely and tells you you're wrong. I would steer way of this class.

I had Assaf for FREN 3010 and for a freshman seminar. He is extremely knowledgeable and qualified. Generally a very nice and fair guy but could be seen as very by the book/rules. Does not put up with **** excuses from students, but pushes students to do their best and helps anyway possible in furthering their knowledge.
