Comment:
Professor Egan is simply a great guy. He is straight out of the 1950's which is hilarious. He is a very fair grader and really cares about the students. Tries to get you involved in the field of economics. One of the better professors out there.

3 tests that all weigh a lot. Difficult to take notes for so the tests are stressful. May seem like he doesnt care about the students but is very helpful in his office and actually does care. Go to class and do the homeworks because he does weigh them in at the end

He doesn't write on blackboard during class and talks very fast, which makes it hard to take notes. He doesn't set homework, which hinders you from understanding materials. exams are hard cuz there is no homework practices. He also made things very difficult by speaking difficult sentences and terminologies. VERY UNCLEAR compared to most econ profs

Smart guy, but not a very effective professor anymore, at least not for 101. Lectures were extremely unfocused, and he would go off on ridiculous tangents. Unclear explanations of important concepts. It's not too much work, and tests aren't too bad (but stupidly formatted, only 3 q's per exam). Not who you want to introduce you to the subject.

Really, the prototypical mad/ genius professor. He has plenty of eccentricities. Visit him in office hours and he will regale you with interesting stories about his economics career. I would not take him if you are not an econ major. He is quite an accomplished man, but most of your learning will be outside class. I really respect him.

He's not a great professor but he's not bad either. Very quirky. Attendance isn't mandatory, but at the end of the semester he looks at your attendance, number of homeworks turned in (not mandatory), and extra credits handed in, and uses that to figure out if he'll bump your grade at all. Do not bother with book, tests are from notes material.

Amazing. Hilariously overqualified. Could be teaching at any Ivy, Stanford, MIT etc. at the drop of a hat. This dude was the freaking head of the Department of Energy for the United States of America! He teaches 300 and below-level classes in order to keep tenure while he works from his office publishing journals, books, articles etc.

Tests are straight out of class notes and the few exercises assigns. makes use of blackboard, but enough key concepts are simply told in lecture, so be an attentive note taker. very learned, will explain anything you ask him to. he will give extra help and spend the time to answer questions in class. really an eccentric guy. i recommend this class.

really sweet guy. if you go to class, do the optional homeworks and meet with him a couple of times he will give you a good grade regardless of your test scores. goes off on tangents sometimes during lectures but you get used to it

Just participate in class and this guy will love you. If you can stay awake in class and skim the reading this is probably the least amount of work you will ever have to do for an A.

Egan is a really intelligent guy, but sometimes that is not the best thing. He goes on tangents that are at times confusing and most of the time completely irrelevant. He spends a lot of time teaching through graphs, not verbal explanation. He speaks very quickly and it is difficult to take notes from him.

alright so here's the thing - you dont ever have to go to class, because he takes attendance but it doesnt count for anything. if you start doing all the reading 3/4 nights before the exams you should be good

Would be better for an upper-level course than an intro. Talking to him outside of class gave me a lot more insight on economic issues. In class, have to follow along or you'll be totally lost. Definitely goes on tangents, which I found I actually understood when I had done the reading (but there's no other incentive to do so until test time).

Egan is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. He is truly cares about his students and will offer to meet with you in his office. He does have a tendency to be rather ambiguous and go on weird tangents. I say, pay close attention, ask many questions if you can and take detailed notes. Prof. Egan doesn't get the credit that he deserves.

Guys crazy. Means real well, but fails miserably. Gets stuck on tangents for entire class periods and teaches the entire class through examples and theory. I teach myself through the book.

Great professor. Very fair and straightforward. If you're lazy and looking to slide by, don't take his course. In fact, don't bother going to college.
