A challenging professor. Good students love him, lazy students don't like him. If you're mature and somewhat capable, you'll do fine and learn a lot. If you're not, look for a slacker professor--but realize that although you're in college, you probably don't belong here.

Not approachable. Locked you out of class if you were late (aren't we paying his salary??) Monotone...read from textbook. Blue book essay tests that did not match with class reading. AWFUL!!

AVOID HIM IF POSSIBLE! Francis Flavin is the rudest, most insensitive professor I've ever had. Additionally, I made all A's in undergrad, but a C in this class, most likely because he didn't like me. This man is out of touch with reality and wielding his tiny amount of power over freshman history students.

This is a college level history class, Flavin expects college level work. Do you work, go to class, and study as any college student will and you will do fine and most likely get an "A". Dont do these things and fail. He is a Fantastic teacher and is one of the best if had so far. Word of Waringing; dont be late and dont miss even a single day!

It's pretty boring stuff, the same stuff we covered in high school so at least the subject matter was fairly easy. The tests are REALLY hard and you have to be REALLY detailed but if you talk to him or the TA during office hours, your grade miraculously goes up...

Here's a professor that doesn't know how to grade incoming freshmen...I took this class straight out of high school and made a C in it...DON'T EVER COME LATE, OR LEAVE EARLY...he loves to embarass students in front of their peers...Don't talk back to him..Consequences are severe!!!!

He's always prepared for his lectures and tries to make them as interesting as possible, but the quizzes and tests are graded too harshly. Plus, as people mentioned, his tardy policy sucks hardcore. If you're late, you might as well turn around and leave if you don't want to be harassed in front of the class.

I really enjoyed Flavin's lectures. He always comes to class prepared, he is thorough and clear regarding what he expects from his students, and he makes the subject matter interesting. If his tardy policy bothers people, then maybe they should come to class on time and it won't be an issue.

A great professor, extremely knowledgeable. More demanding than most, but rightly so. Tests were pretty easy, especially once you get the hang of it. Comes off arrogant and condescending at times, but only to people who deserve it.

Had great knowledge and understanding of American History, always came prepared to class. But his class was way to difficult to be a core class, this is not an upperlevel chemistry class. id Only 5 out of 90 students are making an A in a freshman CORE class then there is something wrong. He doesnt understand this is no a class in ones major.

This was one of the most unpleasant classes I've ever taken. Flavin is obnoxiously anal about his tardy policy and treats his college students like 6th graders. I also don't think that humiliating students in front of a very large class for not doing well on a quiz makes for a great educator.

He's enthusiastic and knowledgable but can be unclear. Seems really nice but a little goofy. People make fun of him for being dorky and uptight but I thought he was nice. But sometimes he talks down to you and can come off as a little arrogant.

His tardy policy is unrealistic and so are his tests. His TA grades to hard and does not give an explanation as to why he is taking points off your test. And if the class does well on one test he tells his TA to grade harder.
