Francois is an amazing person and teacher. I took this class as a way to take photography since I never had the chance before. Grades easily. Encourages you to photograph and print to how YOU like. Amazing person overall, he convinced me to become an art studio minor!

Francois is THE professor to have in the photography department. Of the entire faculty, this man is warm, charming, and a great instructor. He's been around the world, and all he wants to do is give and teach. Be sure to talk with him outside of class. I feel like most of what I've learned has come from the hour long conversations in his office.

Had Francois as a professor in the 1990's, and felt at that time, and still in reflection, that he was one of the best instructors and people I knew at New Paltz. He was challenging! Taking his basic photo class, convinced me to change from a Graphics Design major to Photography, and then on to Graduate school at RIT. I favor him greatly. RJZII

I've heard he's inspired many students over the years and is very much a one-on-one caring kind of person if he thinks of you as someone who wants to work hard and succeed. Some students appearances were deceiving. I've heard many say: "I cant tell if Francois likes me". One day he's enthusiastic and friendly, the next day he's aloof. Good guy.

Hes a good teacher, but not a very good grader. He thinks we had the budget of a milionare. his ideas you better be on the same side or you dont win. I learned alot and he was encouraging.

Francois can be hard to win over, but if you work hard and prove yourself you can gain his respect. However, I got a little creeped out when he married one of his students.

Francois can be a really nice guy, but he is anal about final products for his asignments which are often vague to begin with. He can be quite frustraiting after the fifth or sixth time he tells you to redo a project. Also, Comercial Photographers need not apply, unless you are willing to totally compromise your style to fit his "artistic" palet.
