This was a really great class. I took it for Jan term, and I learned a lot of cool things that I will probably remember for the rest of my life. The tests were hard, but there was lots of extra credit, and the labs were easy and a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend.

I took Dr. C's jan term infectious disease class and it was awesome. He's super passionate about the course, and was always available for outside help. As a non science major it wasn't the easiest but if you put in the work you can get an A. The extra credit quizzes really helped as well

Dr. Putzke (1st half of semester) and Dr. Caccavo (2nd half of semester) have very different methods of teaching. You'll need the textbook for the first half of the semester and could potentially get away with not going to class. The second half of the semester with Dr. Caccavo is the exact opposite. Go to class. Exams are straight verbatim.

Caccavo likes to have answers on exams that are verbatim. BI 308 Bio of HIVAIDS is different than his regular courses. Exams are all essays which take the whole 3 hours to complete and he expects 25 key wordsphrases in each essay (verbatim from the lecture) to get full credit on the essay. Assigns lots of literature studiesresearch.

This was a really great class, I highly recommend it. You have to put a lot of work into it, but it is definitely manageable if you show up to every class. You learn a lot of good biology and a lot of compassion in this class. Dr. Caccavo is obviously passionate about this topic, and does a great job of sharing that with the students.

I've never had to work as hard for an A as I did in his course. He expects his definitions of things word for word on the test, and forgetting even a single detail on a short answer question can result in a loss of half the question's points. For those who have to take his BI 140 course, prepare for a challenge. I salute those who can rise to it.

I love this class, it is extremely hard but it is also interesting. He is a very tough professor and you CAN NOT get away with not studying. Hard but definitely worth the work.

REALLY REALLY hard course. Great prof though. Very clear and informative lessons, fun guy to talk to. While you'll struggle really hard through Jan term, it's worth it. Grades hard, but fairly, you'll know exactly what he expects.

Had him for HIV/AIDS. Told us no essays on test-- next day, tells us he had to write it that morning, so it's all essay. I would've done great, but didn't tell us "short answer" meant 5 paragraphs. Expected 100 paragraphs total for the test. Miss a date, any detail, paragraph doesn't count. Average grade failing, and he was ecstatic. Terrible.
