Dr. Niles is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's really smart and he definitely knows his stuff. His lectures are engaging and interesting, and he is hilarious. His classes are hard, but they aren't unreasonable or impossible. Do the reading, pay attention and take notes in class, SHOW UP TO CLASS, and participate, and you'll do fine.

Tries to seem awesome the first day of class but after that its totally different. He's a hard core liberal and makes sure that you know it!! The class is average difficulty wise but I wouldn't ever want to sit through lectures full of arrogant underlying comments ever again. Basically tries to convert you! :

He's extremely intelligent but articulates well the information in class. He grades really hard on papers. If you're not a poli sci major, you may get frustrated by the amount of work you have to put into his classes. But you do get a LOT out. If you're poli sci, this will definitely prepare you for grad school.

Very smart, will instill how to think as a professional political scientist for majors. As a former pol sci undergrad major (now grad) he will bring graduate level expectations at the 3 and 4 level, this is intimidating but will grant students a huge advantage going into grad school. His intro to american gov't will be hard but his tests are fair.

Niles is super smart. He's so smart it's almost impossible to keep up with the class. If you're not going to read then DON'T take his class! His quizzes are from the book every week. His tests are mind blowing. Study study study.

I learned a ton in this class, and he's a really interesting, engaging prof, but his tests are difficult. He expects students to read the chapters 3 or 4 times in order to do well, so my grade doesn't reflect what I learned in class at all.

Niles knows his stuff and while he's generally perceived as difficult he engages his student. I wouldn't have stayed at this school let alone be graduating right now if I wasn't lucky enough to have him as my advisor.

He really is hard core...but he knows his stuff and is pretty much brilliant. Don't take his class if you are lazy and don't want to be stimulated to think beyond your normal thoughts...Class is hard, but also enjoyable. Exceptionally interesting.

Hardest class I ever took, but one of the best for making you think. If you plan on going to grad school, this man can get you in the mode for it. Don't whine about how hard it is, just do it. The study habits and thinking habits you pick up will be more than worth it. He may think pretty highly of himself, but the man has a right to. He's good.

He's out there. but has more energy than 5 year olds on speed. Ask about his EMT days. Those are good stories. He's EASY to side track. But if you need help ASK he'll help you out.

Really quite rude and presumptuous. Predisposed and pompus. Also has a major passion for the field that is hurt by an inability to communicate well outside the lexicon of his study. Really makes students feel dumb and weak, even though they bust their ass for FCNs classes.

Thinks he is god's gift to political science and academia. Just because he rags on every other department doesn't make him a great scholar.
