Comment:

Difficult teacher, but knows what he's talking about. He lectures on topics not covered by the readings, so you have to pay close attention, and memorize everything from the book. Not to mention participate a whole lot in class. It's a lot of hard work, but you learn a lot in the class. If you get him as a teacher it's not the end of the world.

Frank Shaw is the man. He does make jokes that arent funny or arent jokes at all and does laugh quite hard at his non joke. but at the end of the day he is a good guy who will help any student who genuinely cares about his class. Class was pretty hard, especially for a 100 level course. participate!

If you get this teacher DROP THE CLASS! Quizzes consist of 1/4 of what he lectures about, and the other he doesn't even cover. Also, the material that he covers on the tests/quizzes is so in detail you must recall everything you read! Laughs histerically at himself and makes a lot of sexual references. Worst teacher I've had.

He's a decent prof. Its defineitly not an easy course,but as long as you keep up on the readings,participate,and actually study you'll do fine.Shaw is to be respected for the vast amt of knowledge he holds.Hes a tough guy...or at least thinks he is...but if u put aside your personal feelings and just do your work,u should have no reason to complain

Liked this class alot, interesting material, if you listen in class you'll get an easy A. He offers tons of extra credit on tests, I got 100 or over on 2 of 3 tests. You have to be willing to participate and listen in class to get a good grade. Very knowledgeable professor on wide aray of material.

this is honestly the worst teacher i've ever had. he's rude and thinks he's funny, and makes vulgar refrences frequently. he's very degrading when students dont do well and thinks that everyone shoudl get a "c" becuase we are all AVERAGE. he grades spelling and punctuation carefully, so watch out. beware: you must participate.

If you get stuck with Frank Shaw DROP THE CLASS RIGHT AWAY. He is not clear with the material he covers in class, his tests are very specific, and the grading scale is incomprehensible. Frank Shaw has pretty much destroyed my love for history.

He is the toughest grader I have ever had. Our class started with about 20 people and ended with 6. If you are a classics/HAB major, TAKE this class. If you are not a classics/HAB major, do NOT take this class. He's a nice guy, but he expects too much. Latin is not my life. I did learn a lot though.
