This is a seminar course and the assorted reading material were good papers. Fundamentally disagree with his philosophy though. As per another professor, "say a great deal in a few words".

I loved Franek especially compared to other profs at Mac. He gives quality lectures and always sees things from the perspectives of his students. His assignments were clear and easy to understand. Seriously, what more could you want from a prof?

He is confused. Lecture notes are nothing more than from textbook author. Assignments dont make sense and filled with grammar errors. If you reach out to him, he is downright rude. Fine, he tends to be a good orator who does not even take questions. Not impressed with his style or approach.

Comment:

Best teacher for 3X03. People did better with him than Ned the year prior. Solid explanation of what you do and what you need to learn and why. Solid marking scheme, no weirdness. Franek always came prepared, and at least bothered to look at the Software Engineering curriculum (unlike Dr. Nedialkov).

Just as many people mentioned, he's kind and one of the best in CAS. Anyone who spends several hours before assignments and final could get A. You can finish the 3-hour final in 45 mins. However, maybe he's too kind for undergrads. I also attended his 706 lectures. I felt we could have learned more in 4x03.

Dr. Franek is one of my favourite profs! One of the most helpful and most kind professors I've had. He is a very passionate speaker and he speaks very clearly and loudly. His notes are very comprehensive and useful, and you can tell he really wants his students to succeed. His teaching method and course outline help capture students interest.

Great prof to teach SE 3X03, definitely one of the best profs in the department. Test are more than fair, but you have to study. His lecture slides are straight forward, but best learned with computer used for practice. He also has enough swag to teach class in T-Shirt and slippers in November. I wish he'd teach my every course.

Prof. Franek is the best prof there is in the CompSciSoft Eng department at Mac! His lectures are clear, informative, and he tries very hard to make them interactive and makes even difficult concepts easy to grasp. Plus, he is very approachable, he marks assignments very fairly and will always give you time out side class if you need any help.

Lectures are utterly useless, and some of his online assignments make absolutely no sense at all. Either some instructions contradict others, or they require adding totally useless functions to a program. Not to mention that a lot of his slides and assignments are ripe with grammatical errors.

He was always late for class and there was barely any point in coming to class as he just read off the slides that are posted online. It doesn't help that he has an annoying accent and its the only mandatory first year comp sci class that you have to take so you're essentially stuck with him the entire term. Most of the content are in the textbook.

Theres no point in even goin to his lectures. At first I thought it would be an interesting class, and it probably could have been. But he takes forever to complete a slide, he's not practical in what he teaches, hes boring, and his assignments are dumb. Aside from his fair test this year he was bad.

Boring and repetative. Spends entire lectures on one slide. Once spent an entire lecture telling us that we waste his time when we e-mail him, and also lectured us on how computers don't have enotions related to clocks (what does that mean!?). But, he does give you a month for projects that take a weekend.

worst prof in CAS department. He is not normal.he says crazy things,does crazy things.I think he is mentally ill. More importantly, he has no desire to teach. The year i take the cs4zp6, not a single group is interested in his 'project'. We are scared away by him.
