Good Teacher. Class is easy if you do most of the reading (at least skim it). He is straight forward on his tests, and every thing matches the review information he gives out. He will review your papers for you before you turn them in. Show up and do the work and this will be an easy course.

At the end of the semester I finished our final assignment over a week and half early to give to him to edit, he looked it over said it was good, just to make a few tweeks. He then gave me a D+ on the assignment.

He is very enthusiastic, kinda a history dork but an awesome one. Sometimes class can go fast but it's never a problem because in his class, there really is nothing that he will think is a dumb question or comment. He always responds with an in-depth answer and is very willing to help anyone. One of my favorites for sure

I thought the class sounded really interesting from the couse description but ended up being bored out of my mind. Less a seminar than a lecture and less early medieval Europe than Late Antiquity. Nice guy, but not an engaging teacher.

I graduated in '92, was the only medieval studies major in the whole school. Paxton nevertheless refused to let me in a medieval studies seminar because I was studying abroad and unable to register for the class until he'd filled it up. Never particularly helpful-over-critical and persuaded me to NOT pursue a degree in the field. Thanks Fred!

A really nice guy. Not a topic I was particularly interested in, but he showed so much enthusiasm that it generated excitement in the class.

The best professor I had in 4 years of college. Interesting and interested, passionate about his subject, funny, and always willing to help or discuss ideas. I wish they were all like Paxton.
