Comment:

Dr.Rivers was one of the first Professors I had while attending Towson. If you come to class, do not chew gum, do not wear a hat and FOCUS on what he is teaching, your love for History will grow. I took him in 1993 101 and Civil War; and still appreciate his contribution to my 'tool box' of thought! Great Professor if you don't want an easy ride

Pay attention to the lectures and read the books. If you have any interest in the Civil War, you will love this class. Some have criticized that he goes off on tangents. All these side stories have a purpose and relate to what he is discussing. He tells about the Civil War like a great and wonderful story.

I found him to be extremely interesting, humorous, and informative. I thought that his exams were fair and the paper was graded thoughtfully and fairly. He's not one to tolerate nonsense or sloppy scholarship, however!

Tough class. He expects some thought on the two tests that he gives. Gives multiple essays to choose from before the test. The catch is that he is a tough grader because of that. If you are into the Civil War the class is good. If not then take another class.

This guy is an idiot! Worst teacher i have ever had. Only has two tests to grade from because he is lazy and doesnt feel like grading papers. Acts like hes real smart but isnt and doesnt know how to teach. Constantly antagonizes students and is abrasive when asked questions. Asks irrelevant questions on tests that isnt covered in the material.

Is going deaf so he can barely hear anything. Assigns a huge text book and expects you to have the entire thing read by the midterm/final, doesn't help. No review or study guides for exams. Is psycho about things like chewing gum and arriving late. Always talks about how he isn't paid well and how students in the past have hated him.

The worst prof. that I have ever had. Tests come from picky details within text book. The only correct answer is his opinion. Grade only based on two tests. Extreemely biased and boring. Get the McPherson book but read it on your own. Do not take!

Boring and interesting at the same time. Take this class only if you are VERY interested in the Civil War. Lots and lots of reading. Tests are all essay. Grade based on 2 tests. Likes to go off on tangents. Very biased.

I can't stress to you enough how horrible this man is. He is NOT afraid to fail you!! His lectures are extremely boring and he gives you no study guide - only tells you to read a bunch of chapters and know everything.
