Comment:

The absolute worst professor I have ever had. The course was paper heavy, even though it is not a writing intensive course. My honors writing intensive had less writing than this class. The comments on my papers were not constructive by any means. They were rude and destructive. I am a fairly good writer and never got above a C on a paper.

Comment:

He is really nice but has a weird sense of humor. He laughs at things that aren't funny like sometimes victimization of a robbery or something. He likes to put you on the spot and can seem condescending. His lectures are based on the book but he gets really off topic so for studying just pay attention to what the book says.

Comment:

Roth is serious about making sure students walk out of his class with more knowledge regarding sociology and improved writing skills. He's not a BS professor, so don't take his class if you're not going to show up or take your classes seriously. If you're a serious student that wants to learn, take his class and go to office hours too.

Comment:

He jokes around a lot. If you can't take a joke, I do not recommend this class. You'll have to buy the expensive text book. He gives three tests. The final is not cumulative. Make sure to take notes and read the book because his lectures are different from the book. Hates psychology so be prepared for those comments. Overall he was decent.

Three exams including the final exam are given and each are worth 20% of your final grade. A small essay at the beginning of the semester for 10% of final grade, and an 8 page research project due during "dead week" that is worth 30% of your final grade.

He get's off subject about every 15 minutes and his lectures are very heavy. I would not recommend taking his class at all. His syllabus contains an outline of which subjects are going to be on exams, but where he gets off topic so much it never adds up, therefore; you never know 100% what to study or what will be on exams. Good luck!

He knows his subject inside out, and he also has this really adorable grandfather-ish kind of energy wrapped up in an angry New Yorker package... real character. I enjoyed his class. Tough grader, but he's pretty specific on what he wants.

Roth has a sense of humor that is not for everyone, but he knows the material he is teaching. His lectures are lively and easy to pay attention to. He is a tough grader compared to other professors I have had, but he gives feedback for students to learn from. He truly seems to care about his job. Tests are from lecture and reading.

Dr. Roth's class is not difficult as long as you show up to class. You have few assignments, but the ones assigned are not difficult as long as you pay attention to his lectures. He lectures in a way that is entertaining and intriguing.

Dr. Fredrick Roth is a very fun professor to have, his class is very lecture heavy and you absolutely have to be in class to pass the test because all through out the semester you only have. 1. a 500 paragraph essay due. 2. Some tests. 3. 8- page research paper due at the end of the semester. There is absolutely no homework. Beware. Awesome class.

I currently have Roth for a 2 hour,20 minute lecture and cannot wait to be done with his class. He is rude, has no voice voice control, goes on ridiculous tangents that couldn't be further from the lesson and I just do not recommend him. Take someone else for SOC200.
