Spalding is a mad genius. I'm not sure if anyone fully understands HIM, but I sure do understand the curriculum, at least. Be prepared for a wacky and effective lecture experience. The degree of difficulty is a good medium; Spalding expects a lot of study and effort but isn't a punishing grader. Very helpful and engaged with students outside class.

Gabe is a terrific professor. He cares about the material he is teaching, he cares about students learning, he is amazingly smart and he is a kind person. I don't think a student could ask for anything more.

Comment:

Over is a good teacher. He tends to give vague answers which only make sense later on, and only if you are paying close attention. Homework is usually harder than the tests. The difficulty of the test problems is proportional to the amount of time spent on the topic. On a side note, Gabe does not seem to understand sarcasm or joking very well.

Gabe does a great job of explaining tough concepts in terms of simpler things. However, his expectations, especially for labs, are quite unclear. If you ask him to make his expectations clear, life becomes easier. Test are pretty easy, and he reviews tough HW problems in class. He's also quite involved with his students' career interests.

I love physics, but Gabe made it so difficult at times. He is very unclear about academic expectations. He rarely went over problems in class. His lectures were usually poorly focused. He is a wonderful guy and he will always help with research interests. As a physics major I found that the class was frustrating and that it killed my confidence.

Assignments were obscure and complicated. Little if any feedback was given. You pretty much had to guess what he was looking for. Papers were rarely returned, so most of us had little idea what to expect for grades. Use his office hours, but don’t expect much help. I usually left with more questions than answers. Nice guy, poor writing professor.

Very nice guy. Doesn't really help with the labs so much, lets TA do that, but they are pretty easy anyway if you had AP physics in high school. The guy knows everything physics. Very fun to just talk to. I never did any of the labs really, just talked to him for a few hours each week. Got an A
