Comment:
The best word to describe professor Montinola is 'caring'. She explains concepts over and over again until the class understands; by the end of the course you'll feel like you've truly learned something. Exams are straightforward (study guide provided) and worth 60% of your grade, research paper is worth 40% of your grade and due day of the final.

Great teacher. One of the few political science teachers that lays out clear expectations and doesn't try to trick you on the test. She is very approachable and responds to e-mails within minutes. She want people to learn the material, and presents good evidence. Make sure to study the graphs!

Great professor. Expectations are very clear, and grading is reasonable. She is a very fair teacher and her tests reflect major ideas talked about in class. Unlike other professors, she doesn't try to trick you and instead concentrated on making sure you understood the ideas she is trying to portray. VERY responsive to e-mails-a rarity.

I enjoyed her lectures very much. Exams are fairly easy and are based off of lecture slides. She always engages the class in discussing the current topics, which I respect. The material was interesting. Slides were bland, but a nice, helpful lecturer.

Awesome teacher, you will learn tons. Tests are extremely difficult you really need to know and to engage with the material. She is super helpful always available and extremely receptive to students wants and needs. You will not regret taking this class.

Great instructor, every lecture was very clear and concise - enjoyed the material too. Heard many other students say they had problems with her teaching style, but I loved it. Just come to the lectures and you'll ace the tests.

She is a good professor. The class if fairly easy, but Chinese politics wasn't for me. It's essentially a history class covering China over the last 150 years. I wouldn't recommend taking it.

Her lectures are based completely on the readings, so if you attend the lectures you don't have to do the reading. Her powerpoints are really clear, making test prep easy. While she probably isn't the best lecturer, she is really helpful and easily the nicest professor I have ever had. I would take another one of her classes.

Seriously, don't take this class if you're actually interested in the topic. Go find a book in the library on corruption, you'll save yourself time and it will be more interesting. Her lectures are WAY too structured. She doesn't actually teach anything, she just goes over the research papers. She's cute, that's about it.

I took her Sp09. It was hard. But I took POL51 Concurr so it was hard for me. She is boring in 179. Paper was easy. The MT was hard; final was hard. now in her POL148A; her lecture style is different in 179. POL179 varies on the prof teaching it. If taught by her, is always "corruption." CLASS =stat signif graphs/ coefficiants that she researched.

I took her class in Spring 2009. It was really hard. But then again, I was taking POL 51 (the lower division stats class required for all pol majors) concurrently so it was difficult for me. Montinola is very boring in 179. She pretty much used statistics to lead the lectures. There was a paper assignment which was very easy. The Midterm was very h

Class is boring afer the first week. She makes class mandatory as she only shows the 'detailed' ppt slides in class and posts the outlines of them. midterm, final, and hw assignments which are pointless and too easy for college kids. tests were all over and didnt pertain to lectures. wouldnt take her again.

I love her! I just wish I went to class more often. She was a great lecturer and really cared about the material. The TAs were all very helpful and did not let their preconceived ideas on politics to cloud the material. She chose to use very good books and built the course around them which was incredibly helpful if you read the books.

Absolutely the worst professor i have ever had. i cam into the class very excited about the subject and ended up hating it. she jumped around all over the place during lectures and had no idea how to make a cohesive presentation. do not take her if you can avoid it!

Don't be fooled by the morons who took this class for a GE or just suck at political science to begin with. This class was seriously not bad at all - the ones complaining are the same ones who don't read the book/attend lecture. She's extremely helpful/approachable, friendly, good looking, and intelligent, and the tests are not hard at all.

Quite possibly the MOST horrible POL professor on campus. Her tests are impossible to study for. The final was 18 pages. I looked on here before taking her class, but I didn't think she could be "that bad." I was wrong. Please don't make the same mistake that I did, wait for Andrews to take this course if you value your GPA.
