If you go to class, listen and take notes, he pretty much gives you the answers to his exams in his lecture. Don't miss class or your'll fall behind, even if you think reading the text will keep you up to date in the class, his commentary is the basis of his exams.

He has very interesting stories and analogies. Take good notes and dont buy book (it is online just google it) Covering all the philosophers can become mundane and boring at times (Only those who are interested in philosophy will stay up for the entire class) He is really nice though. On test which are essay just write down everything you remember

He is a weird guy but is a good teacher. DONT read the assigned readings because he tells you exactly what you need to know from the book readings. Dont even buy the textbook! Take good notes...memorize those for tests (only 3 of them) and just spit it back on the test = A.

I took him for 3 classes. I have graduated and I will say that, I have never had a better prof that Dr. Herbert. If you want to learn about Philosophy, take his class. If you want to coast and get an easy grad and a Philo credit, skip it. He's fantastic.

Dr. Herbert's lectures are great and if you incorporate A LOT of what he says in class for the exam, you can get an A. Reading is important too, but when studying for Descartes' Discourse, it's best to study your notes because according to Herbert, Descartes is a liar:what he says should not be taken literally. He'll give his interpretation-helpful

The prof is the least nutty of philosophy profs. This is because he has a good balance of people/lecture skills. He is the only one who teaches philosophy in in layman's terms. He is Welsh descent because his last name sounds like a first name. They way he introduces himself is something to pay attention to.

This professor is the best in the department because he is very clear. If you go to class take notes, you will do fine. His only eccentrcity y is that the way he introduces himself. He is the best professor to take for non philosophy majors. Dr Rosenthal is supposed to be difficult.

The best teacher and thinker at Loyola. He does not use technical language that gets in the way of understanding, He does tell great stories (the rhino's private), and he is a Penn State Nut. Oh yeah..the only philosopher in the philosophy department. Do not waste your time in the other Philosophy classes at Loyola!

This guy should not be teaching intro as he is intolerant of other majors than philosophy, speaks using language of phil that he never defines (something an intro class SHOULD do), lets Penn state game outcomes affect his grading scale, the snorting thing

Hard class. Uses his own book, and you HAVE to keep up with the readings. He does give a great over-view of the history of rights and touches on almost every significant philosopher. A great class if you're willing to put in the work.
