Considering HIS185 wasn't an actual history course, I can tell Gary is still a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students and has a real passion for history. I can't wait to take more history courses with him!

I took this class thinking it would be history. We read a book about being original, and had talks about life and college in general. It was once a week for an hour. Very easy class, he has a few assignments for you to do but theyre not hard. Easy 1 credit class and Gary is a nice guy.

Gary is a great and funny guy. I took him for HIS185 and the course was super easy. Barely any assignments and just had fun discussions in class. Also Gary takes late work.

Gary has supported me since the moment I started going to Plattsburgh. He really loves and cares about what he does, and he does everything he can to see his students succeed. Though he does sometimes go off topic in class, this doesn't detract from his teaching, and I learned a lot from him.

For me personally, I did not like him as a teacher, he goes off topic a lot. He gives online quizzes which is easy cause the answers are online. Also he only gives out 2 essays which arent bad but confusing, but once you start writing you're good. There's a lot of readings that even I wasn't able to keep up. I personally wouldn't take hime again

Gary Kroll saved my semester. His class is very demanding but he was very understanding and flexible when I had other obligations and a family emergency. His HIS102 class is also interesting and he's not an especially tough grader. He's very clear in what he expects. He's not just great, he is on a whole other plane of existence; a supreme teacher.

A lot of reading but it's worth it. Great teacher and person in general. He helps you when you are confused about something, whether it pertains to class or not. Gives good advice on essays and on how to interpret text. Awesome teacher all around and would highly recommend him. Not as boring as you would think of for a history class. Quite fun!

I absolutely love Gary Kroll. His 102 was an extremely interesting course and he considers the students gravely. Doesn't assign tests but he gives about 3 essays over the semester. Very nice professor and once of the professors that actually cares and respects the students on this campus. He is always there, I go to him instead of my advisor always

Comment:

Excellent teacher and mentor, wouldn't recommend anyone else. Is very intelligent and stimulates great discussions. He demands participation but can be lax on deadlines and is very understanding. Easily the most approachable professor I've ever had. If you are struggling or can't get work in on time, go talk to him or send him an email.

Gary was a great professor and gave good lectures and lead great discussions. The only thing was that his Final and midterm was almost impossible: 50 MC, 2 Essays and 30 quote matches. There just wasn't enough time to complete both exams. Get ready to read because there is a lot of it to do. Online weekly quizzes

I would highly recommend Gary Kroll to someone who wants a professor they can connect with and learn something extraordinary from. He is a very intelligent, interesting person. Would definitely not recommend him for someone who just wants an easy A as he assigns a lot of reading and demands effort.

Gary is a great, interesting, intelligent person with a lot of good things to say! Definitely take a class with him if you get the chance. However I would not recommend him for someone who just wants an easy A for a gen ed requirement. He is honestly a horrible teacher. I came into this class looking for an easy Gen ED grade, i thought wrong. he teaches the history of animals. He doesn't even have a history degree, but an environmental one!! in my class you have to write a 10 page paper, and in the next section of the same class you only write 900 word essay

Awesome professor but gave WAY to much assigned readings and class is heavily based off them. Gave the hardest midterm and final I've ever taken in my life and I wouldn't recommend him just for that. All weekly quizzes were online. Do your assigned readings

Horrible. Discussing no details to the quizes he gives in class, just a brief overview. Everything straight out of the textbook, way too much attention to detail and not enough about the normal facts
