Gary was an amazing professor! I took his class about Nelson Mandela and apartheid and he was so invested in making sure we all learned and understood the material. He really enjoyed teaching the class and cared a lot about the material, which made me care more. Would definitely take one of his classes again!

I took a summer course by Kynock and he was fantastic! I am not an English major so I felt like a fish out of water at first but he was extremely helpful and I ended up taking a lot out of the class.. Highly recommend taking a class from him!

if you like your professors knowledgeable, subtly funny, good natured and a little omnipotent, Kynoch is your guy. I've taken 3 of his courses and plan to take at least 2 more, his is my favourite prof by far

I didn't love him the first time I took a class with him, but my opinion has completely changed after taking South African History. Dr. Kynoch is hilarious, friendly, crystal clear and makes class discussions engaging. I look forward to taking more of his (small sized) classes!

A wonderful lecturer, but a difficult professor. He is unhelpful and unclear of expectations. You have to find the readings yourself in the library and discuss them in detail during tutorials. If you're willing to deal with the difficulty of his class, it's entirely worth it. I learned a ton and thoroughly enjoyed the lectures.

Incredible prof. Knowledgeable, entertaining, and approachable. Every reading was well selected and relevant to the themes of the class. Do your readings, involve yourself in the discussion, and be prepared to learn about a fascinating topic.

One of the best profs i've had. extremely hard marker but really knows what he's talking about and is willing to explain your grade afterwards. His lectures are fast-paced and packed with information, so be prepared to have a painful hand once a week. Also the hottest prof at Dal.

Does not lecture. This class includes a lot of reading, and then class discussion. You will get a good mark if you make a good first impression with him. Be very vocal (even if you have no idea what you are talking about) and you will get a good mark.

I did not like him at all. Possibly one of the worst prof's I've had at Dalhousie or at the Universtiy of Calgary. He not only marked much harder then one would think but ruined what was an interesting topic.

Kynoch was arrogant and not very helpful...he is a burly football player type who feigns he knows african history from his roots as a suburban white male...picked favorites..and marked accordingly..dal needs a new prof for such an excellent subject

This guy is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes a subject (African conflict) that could potentially be confusing and boring come to life and easy to get your head around. He expects you to do your work, but the reward is that he's tremendously smart and knows his stuff cold.

great teacher, very interesting lectures but hard marker when you take classes at 3000 level. Very helpful outside class time and will offer constructive comments. Actually knows what he's talking about since he's lived in Africa etc.

I took his S. African history class in the summer term, and loved it. First class I ever found group work fun. The writing assignments were cool, not the usual dry stuff, and he's an easy marker. Readings were fairly interesting. Lectures are a bit dry, but very clear and informative.

Gary Kynoch was somewhat monotone, but alwauys interseting. Very organized lecture structure. It's great when you have profs that have experience in their field. Students DO love to hear about it. He has lived in AFRICA..SHARE
