He's very easy going, and he doesnt grade too hard on his quizzes or tests. He only requires 1 research paper for the class. But BE AWARE of the research paper, and make sure you ask questions and work hard . Outside of the paper, the class is easy. Just read a review or 2 online before reading the assignments. If you do the work you'll pass.

My class has to write an essay over "A&P", but he didn't really give us any info on what/how he wanted us to write it. The only thingshe told my class was he wanted it in MLA style format, but wanted to change the format, he didn't even tell us the due date until a week before it was due, and he just gave us a lot of handouts with no info on them.

Great Professor, lenient on time allowed for papers and he was great at giving clarity. The course was inspiring and opened a new train of thought. All you have to do is at least try and do the work and attend class, then you should be able to receive a decent grade.

I have taken comp 1&2 with this professor and received a in both classes. Now I have him for Phil, he has a dry funny side to him but is a very nice guy and great instructor. He is willing to do all he can to make sure his students understand. Just do your work and try and you will be fine. I love this guy

Comment:

Professor Poffenbarger is a great English teacher; however, he gives a lot of studying and essays. I found the grammar part easy because we did so much in class, but he is a stickier on the essays. If you don't consider yourself a decent writer, don't take his class. There were 5 or 6 essays, and the Final was also an essay. He knows his stuff!

Clear, and thoughtful teacher. I took him for Intro to Philosophy and had an amazing time discussing issues and even enjoyed writing the papers. This is not the class for you if you hate reading/writing, as it is a necessary skill in order to get a good grade. However, if you show the effort, he will work with you. Made an A because I'm not lazy.

Mr. Poffenbarger is a great teacher. He promotes class discussions, has hilarious stories from his past, and all you have to do is read and do take-home tests. Overall, he's a great teacher. Just don't write your papers like your texting.

He is the most helpful instructor I have ever had. My 1301 English teacher was a disaster, I wish I would have taken him instead of almost failing my first English. I recommend him, do not listen to the bad comments. He is a very good Teacher and Loves his job and really cares about all his Students. Take him for 1301 and 1302

Took class during the summer. He is very passionate about teaching English. Thoroughly enjoyed him as an instructor. Makes material very clear to understand. You do need to write several papers. He is a fair grader. Just communicate any concerns you have, he listens. Recommend taking him.
