Comment:
Bernstein knows a lot about the subject he teaches, but if you are not familiar or not interested, it can get confusing very quickly. There are few graded assignments and accordingly, it is difficult to get an A. However he is a good teacher and is very helpful if you ask him to clarify his thoughts.

Bernstein is a great man - so smart, kind, funny, enthusiastic, and genuinely interested in teaching. We read parts of 11 books this semester and wrote 3 HARD papers. It was a LOT of work (50-ish pg readings for every class) At times I hated it, but in the end I loved that class! Take it if you actually want to learn something. I enjoyed it a lot.

Intimidating at first but on 2nd glance a fantastic teacher. Incredibly knowledgeable. Extremely nice and helpful. I had a meeting with him and he got me coffee. Coffee!! Discussions were stimulating, but also intense because if you got something wrong, he'd say no you're wrong. But with good intent

Always accesible and very helpful, which is good because he definitely expects the best, he reads very closely, like a crazy english professor on crack, and pays attention to every little word in papers, but despite, he's just a great guy and you can learn so so much from him

Very wonderful man! Does not give many "A's," because he's really picky.
