"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty" Best professor I've ever had. Only class I looked forward to getting crushed in. First professor that taught me how to think and ask questions in the social sciences. I have kept in touch with him for years after graduation; this is why you go to Wheaton

Comment:

One of the best professors I have ever had. He is engaging, smart, and caring. His class is super hard and almost everyone failed the first test. You just have to study hard and do the work. It is not an easy class but you learn a lot. Even the intro courses feel like 300 level courses. Lots of reading and test are multiple choice and essays.

Truly smart and great professor. He comes prepared and there's always a lot to prepare for. That said, there is simply too much content for this class for how little is graded. The tests are often way too difficult and require more remembering details versus comprehension of the material. Simply put, its not a 100 level course that he has prepared

Gerry is a pretty cool guy, but his Intro class was ridiculous. His exams ruined his course for me. I loved the first few weeks of the class, and at about the half-way mark, it just turned dry and boring very fast. After the first few weeks, there were seldom moments when it felt like class was stimulating.

Come prepared to work! Note-taking and extensive studying for tests is a must, but it's worth it. He is a very fair grader and an interesting lecturer - makes class interesting even for those not particularly interested in the subject. Definitely take a class with him.
