Comment:
All he does is lecture. Laughs at incorrect answers to questions in class, but I think he's nervous and doesn't know how to respond. Defines things incorrectly, doesn't seem to know how to describe concepts. Quite awkward and it gets in the way of teaching. If you go to lecture and read the book you'll pass, though. Nice guy, just a bit different.

The man can't give a good lecture to save his life. You basically have to teach yourself. Everything he says is monotone and mumbly. Impossible to follow and his handwriting is atrocious.

Just lectures during class no use of powerpoint or white board. Class consists of 4 exams and a paper nothing else! If you don't go to the review session before each exam the exams are difficult. Tends to mumble when speaking.

the lectures help, so i recommend going to them, but you do not have to pass the course! Just make sure you attend the review days. He is really funny and loves to crack jokes. The only thing the course is graded on are the exams, so don't mess around with those.

Very nice and easy going guy. Only 4 exams and 1 paper for the entire semester. All exams were 50 question multiple choice. If you just show up and take notes you should do fine. DONT BUY THE BOOK! Everything you need to know will be covered in lecture.

The only grades there are, are four exams and a paper. His teaching style took a while for me to get used to. He doesn't show power points, notes are based off of what her writes on the board and what you can manage to write down while he's talking. He doesn't use blackboard or any other internet source.

There are very few assignments (4 exams & 1 essay). Exams are entirely multiple choice. The book was dull, and unnecessary. All the information you need can be learned from the lectures. Don't be afraid to ask questions during class, he is good at clearing up anything you don't understand. Also, classes never last the full time.

SOC 201 is a great class to take. Gil Musolf is probably the best professor I have had at Central. His sense of humor is funny, and his teaching style is well understood. While attendance is optional, I recommend showing up. He doesn't post notes on blackboard, but if you attend the lectures, you will understand the class 100%.

I really enjoyed this class. He is very clear in what he expects. Only one paper due the whole semester. Nice, funny guy. Gives time at the end of class for questions. Is very helpful when reviewing for tests. Great class!

If you go to class and take notes, YOU WILL GET AN A. Seriously, I have stopped reading the book because everything is in the PowerPoint. He goes fast though, so be prepared to be a speedy writer. He has a dry sense of humor, but I found him really funny!

This class seems boring at first, but once I caught onto his wit and dry humor I loved going to class. I found it very interesting. TAKE NOTES & show up for review days before exams and you will be just fine.He basically tells you word for word what to write on the exams during review. The only reason you'd do poorly is if you don't do those things

Easy class so long as you take notes EVERYDAY. SHOW UP FOR THE STUDY GUIDE DAYS, since the test was completely word for word based on the study guide (for me). Does not use the book at all. Only 3 tests in which so long as you memorize the study guide well, you will be completely fine. Kinda specific on the tests, so write all that you know about.

Very very boring person. Class is beyond dry and going to class is a task in itself. 3 essay exams that require precise wording... questions he ask cover a small percentage of the notes you have to take... Take with someone else if you can

Gil has the world figured out. If you pay attention he might let you in on the secret to that. I use his teachings almost daily and yes, he's got a dry and sarcastic wit that once you get it, you'll understand everything. One of the best profs I've ever had anywhere.

Alright, the class is quite boring, BUT, it is not hard. The people who complain are the ones who don't study at all. His class is only 3 exams, so yes, don't screw yourself and do terrible on one. He looks for precise wording. Just memorize the definitions, study guide, and blindly take notes in his class. If you do the following, at least a B.

Musolf is one of the best professors I have had a CMU. The only reason people dislike this professor is because of the material. That is not his fault. One needs to attend class and actually study before an exam. There are only three exams and no extra credit. If you attend class and take notes there is no need to read the book.
