He will never grade any of your assignments in a timely fashion no matter how many times he promises he will do so. He is extremly harsh when giving feedback on papers. His feedback is not only harsh but he makes you feel like what you've written is the worst thing he's ever read. Do not take him.

Very slow grader, nothing returned until end of class. Syllabus was shuffled around several times over the course of the semester. He is a very busy man and had trouble coordinating office visits. I would say the class is an easy B and with enough focus an A. Boring. I would try and get a new FYW you'd be interested in. (it isn't hard to change)

Class not as interesting as expected. Worlds slowest grader did not give back a single paper out of 4 until end of semester. Lots of reading about how to write but it doesn't help. He changed the syllabus multiple times. Gives feedback on rough drafts but very rushed can tell he truly didn't read paper. Nice guy but not too helpful of teacher.

I have never felt more disrespected in a class. HN continually makes his students feel inferior and worthless. He is pompously sarcastic and rude. I have yet to receive a grade since the beginning of the semester (currently 10 weeks in). He thinks he rules the world and will have no problem prying into your personal life. NEVER take his classes

HN is the least timely person I've ever met. Not once did I ever get a paper or assignment back on time, he procrastinates, and he changed the syllabus 6 times on us in a single semester. He is a nice guy, but a hard teacher to get along with academically.

HN is a difficult professor, however the work is manageable and you will learn in his class. I would recommend him to anyone willing to work hard and to anyone with an interest in political science. He is a slow grader, however he is extremely fair and is willing to negotiate a return of some kind to the class. Best class I've taken.

Not a hard (but a very slow) grader, but very demanding, and a lot of work. Participate and its a pretty easy A. Great guy. Would recommend any class with him.

Had HN for southern politics, and the class was really interesting but he assigned massive amounts of work and didn't have the time to grade it. ended up with a decent grade at the end of the semester, but had to read 50-100 pages for each class. discussions are great because he keeps everyone involved. attendance is very mandatory, dont skip.

He was such a great professor. I had him for Intro to American Government, and although the class met at 8:30, his lectures were always very engaging. He is a hard grader, but willing to give you feedback anytime you need it. HN is one of the best professors at Furman.

One of my favorite teachers at Furman. His assignments make sense and you actually feel like you get something out of them. His tests are long but fair and he is a very sweet man.

HN is a professor who really knows his stuff. Don't expect to coast through the class. You will feel overwhelmed at times, but if you work hard it pays off in the end. He's a great professor and a nice guy as well. This class is a must for polisci majors.

I had HN for Introduction to American Government. He is a great lecturer and really knows his stuff, but he is horrible about returning work. It took him atleast 3 weeks to grade each test. Read the chapters and do the hw assignments; test questions (which are all essay) come from them. I worked my butt off and ended up with a B+.

Do NOT expect to receive your work back in a timely manner. Do NOT expect to breeze through class and make an easy A. Do NOT expect this prof to meet with you whenever you ask, because he has an extremely busy schedule. However, despite Prof HN's faults as a teacher, he is a great person and one of the best faculty members to get to know at Furman.

This class was out of control. He had no clue the amount of time the work he assigned took. Sometimes we had 5 hours of work a night....read the book, writing assignments, read NY Times, plus outside of class projects. The PS Engaged Living class with him is a nightmare. If you have time for his class only, take him.

This class nearly ruined my 1st term at Furman. NEVER take this engaged living class- PoTown is the worst experience I have ever endured- the man is out of his mind. You will work and work and work and still have more to do- the only "engaged" part of the engaged living is to engage with each other to survive this horrible, dreadful experience!!!
