This Professor knows his stuff but has been teaching an extremely long time. He can be repetitive, but if you are wise you will understand that what he repeats will most likely be on his exams. The exams are all essay style. Read the book. Read the book. Ask and he will answer. He gives his lecture and he is done. Labs are self paced. Google him :)

His test is very hard and all of them are essay questions. Although he knows the materila very well, he doesn't describe them very clear during the class time. Also, during the lab time, he teaches nothing and don't care what students do.At the end, students get nothing during the lab time.

I hated his class. He was so boring!!! I learned nothing and neither did any other students. He does curve the grades,BIG TIME, but watch out for the smart students who ruin the curves. Will never ever take him again. BEWARE OF THIS GRANDPA!!

I learned a lot from this class. Yes it can be difficult, but Merill is fully aware of the parts that can be difficult and grades it on a fairness. He will curve the test if needed and omit something if he didn't discuss it. The key to passing this class, is going everyday and taking good notes.

Not my favorite subject. I took it only because it was a requirement. All I did was read the book and come give the tests. He gives tests out of 125, and counts them as out of 100, so you effectively get 25 points free. But it's all short-long answer. I managed to make an A.

can not teach unless you already have a degree in geology, test all essay on subjects not covered in text, only in rambeling lectures. Take other guys class if only were other guy!
