If you study the rocks in class, your notes from lecture, and ask for help WHENEVER you're not sure about something, you'll do really well. His tests are exactly what he tells you they're going to be, and he is MORE than happy to help. His stories get a little annoying after a while, though...he likes to tell the same ones over and over.

One of the biggest wastes of time! Tilson is a very nice person but if you aren't an expert at knowing and naming rocks, this class will certainly put a damper on your GPA. I thought this class was the study of the earth, in general, but it should be titled "Rocks 101." Avoid Tilson, if necessary.

One of the worst teachers I've had at ETSU (I am a senior). He's boring, long-winded, redundant, unhelpful, and a little creepy. He bent over backwards to make sure that one of the girls in the class got a smoke break when she wanted one (daily), but when I requested to get a make-up test to attend a career-related event, he wouldn't budge. :(

Tilson is a storyteller more than a teacher. I already knew the material going in so I didnt buy the book, but I would recommend that new geology students buy it and study it. There's material on the test that isnt covered in class. And buy that dumb study guide he sells. Its not fair, but youll need it if you dont already really know your rocks.

Decent if you just need core requirement and are willing to drag yourself to his daily storytelling sessions. If you really want a sound geology class good luck, this man babbles more then any prof. I've ever had and tells the same stories every damn week.

Great class. Mr.Tilsonis very clear with info you need to know and will help anyway he can. Half of the ?'s are from the end of the chapters in the book. How much easier can you get. Take this one.

this guy is one big power trip. gets off from teaching a gen ed. course. helpful only to the pretty girls. was very interested in geology, thought it might be of something i'd major in. def. not after my experience with Tilson. am retaking with Gao.

The only problem I had with this class was the attendence policy. Five absences, no matter the excuse, any more and you fail. Other than that, he's very easy to get along with and will help you any way he can. The material is tough, but not impossible. The exams have some tricky questions too, but not enough to fail you.

This man is indeed, ridiculous! He knows the subject very well, but he expects to know what he knows too. Instead of teaching us anything, he tells us useless information that we don't need to know, and even tells us we don't have to know it. He's the worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE! IT WILL ONLY DROP YOUR GPA! Also, VERY repetitive

This guy is ridiculous! His class is an introductory class but is so hard! if you are taking this to fulfill your core--do not take it! it will bring your gpa down most likely! It will only get harder as the semester progresses! It's sooooo hard! And I'm not one to complain-i love school! haha.

Very nice guy. He definitely knows his rocks, but dont let the casual atmosphere of the class fool you. The tests are very thorough and specific. He makes it to where you must KNOW the material to do well in the class. He is also very helpful and friendly to the students. one Hint Alaska
