Comment:

Painting 1 includes a lot of still lives which was a little uninteresting. There is one project that you have to complete outside of class that allows for a little more freedom. Jessica is a nice lady and offers suggestions periodically. I enjoyed the class very much because I had prior experience, but I can see how some people might find it hard.

Comment:

Jessica Gondek is one of the kindest teachers Ive had in the art department at Loyola. She really cares about the interests of each student and will go out of her way to help you. My painting skills improved exceptionally. Painting, like any other art class, is going to require some effort, but Gondek is a very reasonable grader. RecommenD!!!!

Don't expect to learn how to paint in this course, if you ask any Questions Gondek will ignore you the rest of the time. Do it her way or no way and her way is very unimaginative and boring. If this course wasn't a requirement for me I would have dropped after introductions. Bad energy all semester.

Hard grader, found it hard to get a high grade in class despite attendance and effort. Goes around class to help students but even when you follow her instructions during class, she still critiques you harshly during grading. 2 outside of class projects which you don't get her input on. Upside: learned a lot about painting and definitely improved

prof Gondek was great! not everything she chose for you to paint (still lifes usually) were all that interesting, but they got better as the class went on. Very helpfully, nice, funny, and if you didn't do something her way- it was okay she likes indivduality. TAKE HER! one final paper- exhibit review not hard.

She really knows how to teach you about oil painting but sometimes her lectures drag on for awhile. She's not as open as what I would like to see in an art teacher but not completely closed off to new ideas either. She is pretty accepting and gives you a fair shot with your paintings. I would say she's not my first or last choice in art teacher.

She was helpful in and out of class. She was not a hovering art teacher, which made her class a delight. You have to work hard though and come to class. I found a lot of her demos and critiques helpful as well. In order to be a better artist you need others opinions other than your own. I felt she made that clear without making you feel bad.

EXPENSIVE supply list for painting. But I still use them, because I LOVE oil painting after this class, now that I know how to use them properly. Expanded my creativity. It was a nice class in balance to my other classes. If you love to paint, take this class! I LOVED it! She is also a nice and helpful prof, if you go to class and try.

THis professor is crazy. She talks waaaay too much and wastes way too much class time doing "critiques" and demonstations. When you ask her a question she never answers clearly because she thinks everyone has Ph.D in art like she does, so naturally you don't know what she is talking about. TOUGH GRADER. Great teacher, will spend alot of time outside of class to help. I took her for 3 classes. Grades fairly and looks at effort and tries to help you develop your own style. If you slack then you will not get an A. You don't have to be a master just show her that you are trying. I would definitely tell people to take her.

The key is to listen to her suggestions and use them--if you think you're a child prodigy and your style cannot be changed, you won't do well. She's very nice and willing to help out however she can. Don't be afraid to take this class

Gondek is a very understanding and nice lady. She is easy if you ever need an extension or anything like that. Her grading is an impossible standard. Brings down your sense of talent. Makes you second guess if you should major in art. atleast she is a loveable person but only take if your'e a Monet.

I am Leonardo Da Vinci, and I did get a C in her class! Actually the other comments are pretty honest, but art is so subjective that I believe you'll run into this with all teachers. I'm more of a realistic style and often she didn't care for my work...I think I'll get a B. She is helpful though.
