I took his class over 9 years ago. You know those horrible dreams you have where you go to graduate and find out one teacher failed you, or its finals and you forgot one class, or something horrible happens in one class. Yes, this teacher is the one I still have nightmares over.

DO TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. You will instantly regret it. He is a very difficult teacher. His energy is way over the top and his assignments are more difficult than they should be. If you read this and take a class with him anyways; you will remember this comment come the first day of class and wish you would have taken my advice, you've been warned.

Hotty McHotter. He is a fun teacher to watch. He probably almost fell every class. His enthusiasm helps a lot. His tests are a bit hard, but if you study and participate, you will pass with an A.

I have not met one social sci major or hist major that likes Nebel. Knowing Nebel and reading the positive comments here it sounds like he's posting them himself. He is utterly useless and lacks originality. Don't buy the positive comments here, ask around and people will tell you to avoid Nebel. The few people in my class who liked him were dopes.

The only reason i'd ever want to be a history major. He's an exceptional professor, outlines history to the point where it's impossible NOT to pass the tests. He also has great energy, which keeps us awake and entertained. TAKE HIS CLASSES!

Grant is an awesome teacher. As long as you go to every lecture and take good notes you will do fine. Did half the reading, but as long as you understand the material the tests are a piece of cake. Relates to students real well. Can be slighlty slanted but still a great professor

Great professor. He works very hard at making sure there is a complete understanding in what he teaches. Very helpful in office hours, if you write what he wants to see, you will get A's. There are 5 papers and 3 tests.

Grant is an amazingly smart professor who indeed challenges you to think and learn, not just recite information back at him. He is so helpful and really wants his students to do well! I absolutely loved him!

Absolutley the worst teacher and the most ridiculous class I have ever had. He is absolutely crazy and often pouts when disscussions don't go his way. I never participate in writing on this website but I felt that I must, even if it only saves a few people from the pain and agony of this horrible teacher! PLEASE DONT DO THIS TO YOURSELF!!!

Comment:
The grade received in the class is weighed heavily upon class participation; however, I struggled with speaking up in fear of being humiliated. Both texts and lectures were irrelevant to the goals History 411 should fulfill. I would not recommend anyone to take a class with Nebel in order to avoid humiliation and an unfair education.

Don't take him, not an easy grade at all, very unfair in his method of teaching. he thinks his class is the only one ur taking. not clear on what to study for tests n likes to waste the first hour of every class. he makes u write a term paper worth 45% of grade abt 15pages n makes u write an essay for HW every day of class. very unprofessional

I love this professor. Doesn't just teach on the surface of a subject, but goes in depth into the reasons why. Do not take this class if you want an easy A or you have no intentions of learning the good old fashion way. He is amazing and you WILL learn in this class. Love him!

Interesting sounding class on the first day but sometimes a person needs a class to wind down to in the afternoon hours. Grant will not let his class be that one. Lots of reading and writing assignments everyday as well as a participation grade. If I were not taking 17 units and working a lot I would have stayed in his class. Paces & shouts too

Do not take this class if you cannot think for yourself. He wants students to be creative and answer intelligently. His first rule is not to bore him. If you want normal history facts, take someone else. If you want an interesting class where you can be creative with history take this. Weekly writing assignments, 3 essays, one presentation.

I thought Grant was a fabulous professor. Not many profs can keep me connected in a 150-minute session, but he sure did. He is a little nutty and the profanity could probably taper off a bit but I did not find him to be unreasonable or a high grade out-of-reach. If I weren't graduating, I'd take him again.

You have to be a hard worker to succeed in this class but don't believe what the other guy said, Nebel is by far the most interesting teacher at State. He will open your mind to history in a way you never thought possible. I looked forward to class because off his energy and passion. Go every week and read, you will love it!
