Everyday he just spends 25/50 mins on current weather, and few on the materials. BUT TAs' review sessions and homework discussions are super helpful. As long as you follow them, you can get a high score. Grading is easier and easier, pay attention to cloud hunting and extra creadits.

The professor is kind but, basically he doesn't teach anything. After I found out his lecture is 40mins of "weather forecast" plus 10mins of lecturing I quit go to class and I study on my own. The powerpoint will be a on website and you have to purchase a book--a really expensive one--for homework.

Tripoli is a great researcher, but has no clue how to teach. His lectures are not only boring, but not helpful at all. He spends about 75% of class talking about current weather that has nothing to do with what we are learning/tested on. TA gives a few lectures and we learn more in one class then than a whole semester with Greg. Save yourself.

Rants about the current weather for the majority of the lecture, and expects you to know what he's talking about. Only then in the last 10 minutes of class he will briefly go over subjects to learn while poorly explaining the concepts. You know it's bad when the class cheers when he's gone and the TA teaches more in 50 min than Greg does in 3 weeks

Lectures are pointless. He will talk about current weather for the majority of class. Then during the last 10-15 minutes he will finally get to what we are learning, but does a horrible job explaining it, expecting us to already know everything he is talking about. Very smart man, horrible teacher.

Phenomenal researcher, forefront of his field. Terrible, terrible, terrible teacher. Teaches in stories that are irrelevant, can't properly convey key points. 3 hour class filled with broken labs made for the WORST class I took in my college experience.

Second worst class I took in UW. Spends half of his class on stuff that no one listens to. Average test scores were 70 and was not curved. Avoid him, drop school if necessary.

Comment:
I almost felt bad for how boring the lectures were. Long and unnecessarily in-depth. Don't need to go. Thankfully, the tests are easy enough and the curve helps. Test questions are pretty close to the online practice tests, so if you do those, you're set. Also, there's optional extra credit which you should do just in case.

Professor Tripoli is a terrible professor. The lecture starts off with him talking about current weather for 20-30 minutes, then shows pictures of weather for the rest of it. This sounds easy, until you get to the homework and midterms. Be prepared to teach yourself out of the book and most of the students are estatic to get out with a BC.

Greg is a terrible professor. He barely covers anything pertinent to the topic, is disorganized, clueless, and does not seem to be conscious of his students at all. Do not take this course.

Do not take this class. Probably the worst class i've taken at Madison. He talks about the weather outside for more than half of class and then goes to his lecture slides which are just pictures and are helpful at all. The homework assignments are also very long and painful as well.

Greg is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He doesn't teach anything in his lectures. Tests questions are supposedly based on the book but come completely out of the blue. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! NOT AN EASY A.

He talks forever during the lectures about nothing and then finally gets to his powerpoint the last ten or fifteen minutes of class. His assignments are time consuming and really tough. Tests are even harder and not curved. Don't take this class with him.

I will admit, if you aren't a weather nerd such as myself, and planning to major in the field, do not take Tripoli. You will hate him. If you are going into AOS, consider Tripoli. He will challenge you in a way other professors will not. However, he does talk a lot and is not always clear. Do the readings, listen in class, then you'll do fine.

Worst teacher I've ever had. Brutal. Tons of homework. Incredibly long and tedious projects. Impossible tests. No curve. There is no redeeming quality of this man. 101 level course and it's the most stressful class I've taken in college. And I'm a junior.
