Greg Williams gets a bad rep for no reason in my opinion. It's clear that he spends a lot of time and energy making his lectures really good. He happily answers questions, is super nice, and knows a ton about what he's talking about. He's our professor for OChem 3 and it's a super interesting class so far. Such a treat to take this course with him!

You will learn close to nothing in his lectures for preparation on the tests. You basically have to learn it on your own along the way. Additionally, he makes so many mistakes in his slides, his preparation is questionable too. Additionally, our class average was 25% below the other class. If he is teaching, its going to be a disaster.

Your grade consists of 2 midterms, 1 final, and a homework grade that is equivalent to one midterm. Class is based entirely off of test grades. Good luck!

The professor comes off rude, and when you ask a question there is no friendly responses. He gave very good lectures, made slides very specific, but his attitude is what throws everything off. You have to work very hard to get an A in this course!

Although class has a lot of info thrown at you (he talks a lot but it is good for understanding), you can look at the slides later and it makes complete sense because his slides are done really well. If you go to his office hours he may seem rude when answering questions but that's just his personality. Keep going. He's actually not that mean

He goes over the material so quickly and when I went into his office hours, he wasn't very helpful. In fact he was very rude.

Greg is a great professor! I had him my first term of ochem, and he was a wonderful instructor. He may seem intimidating and a little standoffish at first, but once you go to his office hours and get the chance to really talk to him, he is super friendly and helpful! Best tip to get an A in his class: go to office hours!

Comment:
Initially, Gre comes off as a threatening instructor, but he warms up over the course of the term. Sometimes he makes simple concepts more difficult than they have to be (orbitals, bond types, etc); nonetheless he is a very passionate teacher. The tests are difficult, but you can do well if you study, HARD. If you're stuck, go to his office hours.

He is a great professor and is really funny but he is an incredibly tough grader. However, he is always there for you when you need help and it is important to him that his students understand the material. Go in to his office hours!!!

Where to begin. Williams preps you for chemistry labs, but he is VERY unclear as to what he wants and expects you to make connections that just aren't possible. He doesn't have tests, just one final. MANY extensive lab reports.

By far the hardest class I have ever taken. CH 331 was fine, but this class was absolutely awful. He intentionally tried to fail us on an exam to "teach us a lesson" for being "intellectually lazy" by testing on material no one studied for.

Williams is not the greatest professor for large classes. He often reads off the slides, and fails to explain things in detail unless you go to his office hours. He seems like he takes the weeding out concept of ochem classes too seriously.

Not a great professor. He is good with his choice of projects and trying to explain what we'll be doing in the project in his lectures. However, in his lab reports, that basically determine your grade in the class, he keeps giving less and less information, everything is vague, he is very condescending in his office hours and grades very hard.

Greg rules. He's a great professor and has a personality for the books. He understands that ochem is pretty tough, but expects perseverance and dedication from his students. Get started early on studying for this class, and talk to him if you have problems, he's always super interested in answering questions.

Great professor, especially since ochem is such a difficult course. He really wants students to succeed, and holds review sessions before exams. One of the best professors I've had, but be sure to know your stuff and don't ask pointless questions in class. Do a ton of practice problems!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Greg really is the kind of professor you want for ochem. He's open to questions as long as you don't use the words, "always", "generally", "most of the time" etc. Go to the review sessions, and do all the practice problems in the book.-> Do the homework before the tests. <- Hard class, but manageable.

He lacks patience but he was open to questions in lecture. I did not feel comfortable asking him for help during office hours (b/c of his condescending attitude). There are many mistakes on his slides and emails, and lack of clear guidelines and expectations. That being said if you took AP Chem material is not hard. Good luck :(

Greg is quite difficult, but not unfair. He does not create an environment where the average student feels comfortable asking questions. However, he is quite clear in lecture, if a bit fast. Review sessions and office hours can be much more helpful and will give you a chance to have him slow down (he's also more patient in these settings).

Comment:
I suspect this professor has Asperger's: he is incredibly literal and blunt, without much flair for diplomacy. He also doesn't have much frustration tolerance nor empathy with the class. That all being said, it's incredibly entertaining to watch him rip apart stupid undergrads.
