Comment:
Expects everything to be learned from a poorly written slide show (even programming languages), followed by an in-class quiz over topics that we will have had no chance to actually practice. The class is too memorization heavy and covers too many topics in a short amount of time. I'd say avoid this professor, but in CS at NMT you actually can't.

Comment:
Hamdy is a teacher that should be avoided at all costs. His lectures are sporadic and not at all organized. His quizzes and tests are also long, and unnecessarily verbose. The textbook that is recommended for 324 is out of print and is as helpful as his lectures (not at all). He is out of touch with his students, and what really needs to be taught.

Comment:
His lectures are scattered. He talks about things in vague metaphors and will refer to a concept with a specific metaphor for the remainder of class. His multiple choice questions and true false questions are vague and confusing. He'll upload lecture slides with errors and fix them without announcing there were errors.

Comment:
A large part of your grade will be based on your ability to interpret his quiz and test questions. His slides have clearly been looked over by someone who is fluent in english, his test and quizzes have not. His true/false is cryptic because most of the questions are 99% true or 99% false but are graded otherwise based on a random edge case.

Comment:
PPL with him was mostly CS history up to 1985 and confusing lies about programming languages. Classes mostly consist of him yelling nonsense catchphrases at the ceiling, then giving you insane overly "clever" quizzes. His tests would be confusing even if the subject were first grade math. Expect to be tested on his made up jargon, not the material!

Comment:
At the end of the day, I don't care if you think Hamdy is a nice guy, personable, or charismatic; he doesn't know what he's talking about. I asked a question about types in fp, to which he responded "No, in fp you only have two types: list and atom!" Students only find his classes hard because you have to memorize his own narrow view of things !

Very poor structure. His lectures are very unclear. The textbook is from the 90's and is poorly written. Tests have nested multiple choice questions that are just confusing and waste time. HORRIBLE TEACHER.

Dr. Soliman is very friendly, and has worked extensively Computer Science Field. That being said, he talks about these projects too much. The work he assigns is very difficult, examples include Assembly Language programming, Intel 8085 code, etc. He is also the teacher for the CSE 324 course. Be prepared, study, do not take his courses lightly.

Spends class time praising himself and his sons. Very difficult to understand. Classroom presentation materials are poorly constructed. Does not keep office hours and appointments are very difficult to arrange. Does not supervise teaching assistants or graders. Exams/homework incorrectly graded, and complaints are ignored.

I learned a lot about programming languages that I would likely not have even touched if I had not taken this class. Like others said, he is intimidating, his test/quiz questions are often ambiguous or just difficult, but he is a fair grader and will make every effort to help you if you ask for it.

The quizzes are very difficult because of the way the questions are worded, and all the info comes from slides/lectures. Study his lecture notes like your life depends on them and you'll get a B. Very nice and knowledgeable professor though.

good lecturer, entertaining. His quizzes can be hard, but grading is fair. Programming assignments are fun. His English isn't as bad as some say. I thought it was good.

Very interesting lecturer but the books in his class are almost worthless. His tests are on his lectures and so take good notes and make sure you understand him. He can be intimidating to talk to and his tests are horrific! CS453 was much better and he was more willing to help students.

Comment:
Networking class; yet taught almost nothing about actual networking. Spends too much time in math, not enough time in the practical. No notes for test, yet expected us to know huge equations (of which there were dozens possible) about minute details of fiber optics. Very bombastic and energetic, but content leaves a lot to be desired.

Hamdy is super smart and really knows his programming languages. He's a little difficult to understand but oh so entertianing. To get the full Hamdy Experience sit on the front row and you'll never fall asleep. His tests and quizzes are really hard but you'll learn a lot if youre willing. His class is like a roller coaster.

One of the most enthusiastic, funny, and knowledgable teachers I've ever had. Hard tests, but you not only learn, but learn to think too.
