I agree with all other comments. I did go for a conference with him and he stated,"If you get a bad grade then thats what you deserve"! I did not find him helpful and a good lecturer but he probably is brilliant.

He seems like a nice person, and I'm sure he makes a wonderful grandpa, but his teaching skills probably went down hill 30 years ago. Class was pointless and the only reason why I did okay was because of my wonderful TA! Avoid if at all possible!

Worst professot I've ever had!!! He's a really nice guy, but I didn't learn a thing from him all semester. The lectures were confusing and pointless, and the textbook didn't help either. I was totally lost all semester.

He is soooo nice. but he can't really teach intro classes. the lectures don't help at all. you basically have to teach yourself physics. go to the ta tutor room. the ta's are really helpful. try to do really good in your first test that is basically the easiest test that you will get in that class.

Genius, but really bad at teaching, especially large lectures. Goes off on tangents. Attending lecture is pointless so you mostly have to teach yourself. Tests are worded wierd

Really sweet old man, but cannot teach at all! Even if you ask very specific questions, he cannot explain things. He worked on the Manhattan Project (yes, he's that old!), and I'm sure he'd be a fascinating dinner companion, but he is NOT a good prof for an intro course.

Personality wise, he's very nice, patient, as well as willing to answer questions. However, he did not teach me a thing. Only reason I went to lecture was for the few equations he gave out and the once-in-a-while practice problems. Expect to teach yourself the material because lectures do not help that much.

He is an absolutely horrible professor, by far the worst I've come across. Unless you are hoping for an independent study, avoid him as a teacher.

Arguably the worst teacher I have ever had. Does not teach Physics well at all, and his lectures are incomprehensible to basically everyone in the room. If not for my TA, I wouldn't have learned anything in this class

Hans is an idiot, plane and simple. I know he is probably way smarter then me, but he can't teach this class. Always makes mistakes when solving problems in class, tests never cover what happens in lecture. See previous posts for more examples, but he does seem out of touch with reality. He doesn't even check his university e-mail at all!

Horrible Professor. Can not figure out his own calculations and problems in class. Hard to understand. Extremely hard tests. Probably brilliant at some time in his life but should have retired years and years ago!!

Same complaints as the first poster. Doesn't test what he teaches, students are better off learning from the book than sitting in lecture for 15 minutes watching him solve a problem and get the wrong answer. Seems out of touch with reality at times.

Terrible teacher, officially retired years ago but still teaches Physics 1301 & 1302 fall & spring at 8:00. Too old to relate to students, doesn't explain concepts well, and doesn't test what he teaches. Class test average for entire semester was 38%!
