She is such a great professor. She really cares about every student, and her lectures are so interesting and relevant to whats happening in the world. The class does move pretty quickly, so make sure you keep up to date with the reading, and you should be fine. Besides quizzes, theres only 2 research papers and a final in class essay.

Dr. Mann is great at what she does. There's a lot of assigned readings, but they can get done in the time she expects. She's diligent, stern, but very understanding and helpful. Show up to class, do well on the quizzes (by reading or at least going over the notes), and get help if needed and you'll do well!

Was an interesting class. Had a lot of books to read, and a couple of papers, with quizzes for each book you read. Gave good feed back and papers and was helpful when choosing topics and writing, would take again.

Dr. Mann is the sweetest woman. She is always caring and helpful. As someone who doesn't like to read, the books keep you interested and are different from what you'd read in other ENGL 290 classes! 2 papers, a quiz for each book, and a final in class essay. Her lectures are amazing and she isn't afraid to voice her opinion. Incredible woman!!

Mann deeply cares about her students and gives direct feedback to every student prior to and post-papers. She has a real, honest humor and isn't afraid to speak her mind. I look forward to this course. There are quizzes on the reading, but she covers each book beforehand. Would recommend to ANYONE as your tier 2 class.

Dr. Mann is an inspiring woman and professor. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is not afraid to give her opinions on any and all subjects. She has a tendency to get off topic, but her lectures are extremely interesting. Solid choice for an honors class.

Dr. Mann is easily the best professor. People say she's tough, but what they mean is she is very solid, has high expectations, but is still a human who is willing to listen and help as much as you need. She is always extremely prepared and knowledgable on the subject and very woke: don't expect a single boring lecture. Wish I could take her again!

I'm an English Teacher now at a Jesuit High School. I'm having my class read Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. This and the syllabus in Harveen Mann's class was incredible. This is one of the most pertinent classes you can take at Loyola if you want to truly understand the world and literature better. Tough books that you will remember foreve

Wonderful teacher! Took her online ENGL class and it was difficult in the sense that you had to read 5 stories in 6 weeks, but it's manageable. Professor Mann is very caring and responds to emails quickly.

I really wanted to like this class, but it fell flat for me. Dr. Mann seldom allows students to speak in class, frequently gets off topic, and seems to preach more than teach. I got an A in her class, but I don't think I'm the better for it.

I chose to take Dr. Mann's class with the expectation that it would be a progressive class with an open dialogue about important social and political commentary. She was an amazing lecturer and if you put in work on the reading it pays off. I would highly recommend this class for students looking to be pushed to excel.

Very engaging class for English and non-English majors. Only 2 papers, but lots of reading. I loved the books but I'm an English major so take that with a grain of salt. She offers very insightful perspectives on the texts and life in general! Very caring teacher, was very understanding when I had to miss class for personal issues.

This class is very hard but worth it. Prof Mann will make you write a LOT but gives good feedback. She seems like the hardest professor in the world, but if you try you will get a good grade. Cares about all her students deeply and will meet you outside of class. You must read a lot, but your writing will improve immensely. Be ready to learn.

Dr. Mann is a great woman and a great professor. She clearly outlines her expectations and as long as you keep up with the reading, its not a bad class. Theres one quiz per book and a midterm and final research paper. I would definitely recommend Dr. Mann to anyone looking to take an english course.

Dr. Mann is such an amazing professor. She picks awesome texts that will really put you outside of your comfort zones both literary and cultural. If you love passionate discussions about literature, you will love this class. She is also a really reasonable grader, while still pushing you to do your best. I learned so much from her!

Overall Dr. Mann is a great professor, she's extremely knowledgeable about postcolonial literature and enjoys discussion, but you have to be ready to participate. She's very willing to help and is a pretty easy grader, but there are only three assignments so you have to be careful. She has a great sense of humor, but can be intimidating
