does about 10% of the teaching and makes the students do the other 90% and not in a productive way. gives really stupid assignments and then grades however she likes. affirmed my dislike for anything related to the humanities.

There's one word that describes Waddy: brilliant. She is not only an amazing educator but a person as well. Yes she is harder but it only makes you work harder and benefits you. She has my respect. BY FAR the best professor in the History department.

Dr. Waddy is kind. She could stand to be a little more clear about her assignments. She is very helpful with the presentations each student gives in 3 person groups. She's not a stickler about making exams up. She's flexible with deadlines for essays. Exams are open book but she expects a lot of quotation of materials. Excellent book choices too!

A tough professor. She pays more attention to the details of your work than anyone else- but it's all to ultimately benefit you. Don't take the class if you don't want to do the work, but if you want to better yourself (especially as a writer), Waddy's the one to take

She's a tough one, that's for sure. Won't test you on the books, or anything. All grades come from writing. Ultimately, this class does nothing but benefit you. Teaches how to do individual, research and thesis development, all without the hand-holding. Don't be scared away. You'll walk away that much more prepared for capstone.

Took Holocaust class with Waddy- she DOES NOT TEACH. Half the class is watching History Channel movies, the other half is library research. The books are never used or quizzed on. Assignments are vague. Specifics are EVERYTHING with her- citations will MAKE OR BREAK YOU. Vague. Sits in a corner. Speaks rarely and is inaudible when she does.

She is boring and very annoying! The class doesn't pass unless you bring a laptop and do other work during class! She lets the students teach, and just sits in a corner, and interferes them which makes the process very difficult as you are trying to present. I received a C in the class, despite going to all classes, and doing all the work.

After coming to RateMyProfessor.com to check out Waddy I got pretty freaked out! But I went to class, did the reading, participated in class and went to see her about my papers. I took her advice on fixing my papers and did wellin the class. She really isn't that bad

Knows an insane amount, but doesn't know how to present it in a clear way. Hard grader -seems very stuck in her ways. If it isn't her way, it isn't the "right way"-VERY frustrating. Expects too much detail on in class essays. Reading is very interesting, and more helpful than lecture. Lots of group work. Frustrating, but easy B if you do the work.

Not as bad as some say. I get the sense that her tough grading is the cause of a lot of resentment. Though her lectures were a little dry, she has a very good command of the subject matter. Her criticim definitely helps you to become a better writer/historian. Good professor overall.

Helena Waddy is one of the best professors I had in college. She is extremely intelligent and expects your best effort on everything, but if you work hard and prove you want to do well it is not difficult to pull at least a B if not an A.
