Kind of hard to understand so I always zoned out. ATTEND CLASS FOR EXTRA CREDIT. That definitely helped my grade. He made it clear as to what to expect on the tests and part of it was a take home essay that you brought in the day of the test. I believe we had three tests and a book report.

Dr. Chan is very wise when it comes to East Asian history. I did have extreme trouble understanding his accent. He is not that difficult of a grader. It is three tests over the textbook and his review sheets are very useful. If you go over them and study his tests are easy. He is also easy to write for.

Dr. Chan is a difficult though extremely knowledgable professor. Attendence is not mandatry but if you want a good grade attend as much as possible because the exams are very difficult if you weren't in class.

I have taken several classes from him, and hist classes are mostly lecture with the occasional group discussion sessions. His classes are a lot of work, especially the big paper, but the effort does seem very rewarding at the end. He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff.

It's hard to describe Chan. He is number one on my list of worst teachers on campus but the class wasn't that bad. I didn't learn a single thing in the class. However, he gave extra credit randomly for those who attended. If you go to class and do the work it's not bad but you wont learn anything from him.

Very easy class & very helpful teacher. If you do whatever you're suppose to do he'll give you an A so easily. Though he doesn't take roll, try not to miss any of his classes, because he usually gives you all the things you will need for the test during the classes.

I took 2 classes before, & taking the 3rd one this semester. People who said he was hard should come to his classes, you'll see pretty much the same people who have taken classes from again & again. If he was bad, it shoudln't happen, right? Complainers, all I can say to you is you guys must be really dumb, for failing this easy class! Damn shame!

In one of my teaching classes we had to remember 3 of our worst teachers we ever had, this guy made the list! Might have a Ph.D, but his teaching style is atrocious. Tests are hard for Intro courses, also have to do a book report & group project. You present the group project to the class, and then he criticizes you in front of them, great!

Whoever said he/she couldn't understand what he saying is full of horses#&t! He is one of the best teachers I've ever had in the US. He completely changed my perspective towards the Chinese people and their history. Only thing I didn't like was when he made us to read some literature books (some good, some bad like "Rainbow" & "Family").
