What an awful man. If your opinion does not match his, he throws a fit. If your paper does not match his opinion, he expects it to be rewritten until it does so, or rejects it outright. Has a problem with opinionated students, but especially female ones. Belittles students publiclly. Throws 1/2 hour fits about people using the bathroom.

Shapiro is one of the best teachers at this school. Yes, cranky. But one of the gentlest and most passionate professors at the school.

What is great about some professors is that they are opinionated. Henry is not the only one. Yes he has his quirks, but what he teaches you about Shakespeare and Greek Drama is invaluable. So what that you disagree, just sit and listen then. I think Henry is extremely intelligent and a great man. Cancelled class-1 tardinness- always

If you don't want a professor to care about his subject then don't attend college. The majority of his students (speaking as someone who took four of his classes and observed many of them) respected and enjoyed the man. No difficulty couldn't be resolved with a conversation, and he was very lenient with deadlines. The man is a living legend.

just vicious and ancient. This man was said once to be great, now I think he is getting senile. He has some old fundantal and stubborn views about Shakespeare, and doesnt encourage any understanding other than his own. Also this teacher has attendence problems (he doesnt come on time, or cancels)

Comment:
He gets unreasonably huffy when you disagree with him and won't listen to any arguments. He gets visably upset (making the class uncomfortable), and at one point his eyes started tearing up. He's enthusiastic, yes, but I think he takes subject matters too personally (which is surprising for a professor).

Henry is not the legend that he once was, but he still understands Shakespeare in all its depth better than any other proff I've had. Yes, he's grumpy. And yes, when students yammer rather than think, he shows his irritation. He wants thoughtfulness and committment to the text. Give him that and he'll help you understand all of Shakespeare.

One of the most boring and confused men I've ever met. Far too opinionated to hear anyone else's thoughts. Getting senile and totally absent-minded. Nice guy outside of class. Always says hello.

My entire Shakespeare class loathes this man, he contradicts himself and grades against people who disagree with him.He is getting quite senile & resultingly mean(defensive and rude when anyone brings up ideas he doesn't like)From what I hear, he was a great professor once. Sadly age is taking its toll.Ask a former student b4 taking his class.
