If you are a history major at UH, then you need to take one of his classes. He has assignments on the books, which are just simple 5 questions about the book. Then you have a final, which is straightforward as long as you went to class. He does not require attendance, but you will want to go just to listen to what he has to say.

Comment:

One of the most entertaining history professors on campus. He tells funny personal stories that connect with the subject and will answer ANY question you may ask. The only problem was his vague expectation for his reading assignments. I asked what I could do to improve but he simply smiled and said, "You wrote good." Oh well, still awesome

He makes class very interesting, especially with some of the funny stories he tells. His grading is very straight forward on the assignments, so they are not too bad. There is a lot of reading though, so be ready. If you go to class and take notes, and get B's on the assignments, you should do very well. Straight forward class, GREAT PROFESSOR!

One of the best at UHM. Go to class and take notes and you should do fine. However, if you don't like reading, think again about the class, lots of reading. But the books are usually good.

Easy to understand, pay attention, take notes and keep an open mind. If you think you can go in there with preconceived notions because of what you think you know, think again. He does not do power point because he thinks it makes students loose focus. 1 final at the end, no mid term. He is thinking of changing up on the books for 443 and 444.

He's one of my favorite professors in the History Department! Normally has 5 book assignments per sem. Go to lecture, he only has a final and the notes from lecture are really useful. He always includes funny stories in his lectures. I've taken 3 of his courses, seriously awesome professor.

He is one of the coolest professors if not THE coolest in the History department. Great lectures, brilliant guy, and very informative. If you take any of his classes, you will not be disappointed. Quality professors like Ziegler are rare and a dying breed, especially at UH. Highly recommended, A++++

Ziegler is an engaging if slightly eccentric lecturer who seems knowledgeable on his subject. Has a tendency to railroad discussions or go off on tangents but he gets the point across. Grading is not easy but is straightforward. Just write the answers and you'll probably get at least a B. No prereqs, but non-major students may want to steer clear.

I really loved Ziegler's class. This was the first class that really got me interested in history. He has a really good sense of humor and is a great teacher. There are 2 tests during the semester and then whatever work your specific TA gives you. In terms of your grade, make sure you get the right TA since he/she will be grading all of your work.

Interesting lectures, sometimes ambiguous but he's a good teacher and is passionate. Humorous at times. I would recommend this class, easy but you have to study.
