Comment:
The only resource you have is lectures and practice problems with solutions in minimal detail. There is no textbook and no posted notes. So basically if you don't pay attention in class and take good notes, you're screwed. Lectures are also extremely boring and Hoon will repeat the same thing over and over again while skipping over other stuff.

A very solid Professor who knows his material. He is very mindful of those who pay and don't pay attention, so always stay focused and avoid distractions. It is essential to go to class everyday as tests and attendance are the only two graded items.

Dr. Hong is an incredibly frustrating lecturer. He wastes up to half of the class time with things like making the class chant things back to him and going off on tangents rather than actually doing examples. He might do one proof per class, rarely an example, which makes tests harder than they already are

I maybe would've liked him a lot more had the class not been at 8:30am. He was funny, and explained things clearly. Do not ask questions if you haven't been paying close attention, though, because he will not hesitate to call you out on a part of the lecture you missed. If you're late, try to sneak in. Do the homework, you'll be good for tests.

Hoon Hong is one of the best professors I have ever had. He teaches with the idea that you learn little information and be able to apply it. He makes it very easy to learn and gives practice problems that prepare you well for the text. His tests are very fair and I true,y think that the class was built perfectly.

Hong is a funny guy. He doesnt use a textbook so attendance is critical. Exams were difficult and worth 95% of your grade since homework is optional. He wastes a lot of time with silly antics I wish he did more examples instead, as he often just gave a proof and one example at most. Hes still the best teacher for linear algebra.

My favorite professor thus far. Highly recommend him. However, lectures are not optional in this class. He teaches the concepts in detail through class and makes himself available if you need additional help. His lectures are amazing, but he does not provide notes outside of that.

He gives only one example for one topic. And He talks a lots nonsense and wastes the class time. Tests are required much more calculation. The grade was given very strictly. Overall, It is very hard to get A in his class. In my class , half fell below B. The second was worse. I dont know the third and the final. Do not take his class.

He's the best professor I've ever had. I could not have asked for a better teacher for this class. The tests are the same layout as the homework except for the proofs which are just like the lecture. If you do the homework, go to lecture, and review the notes you will get an A. The grading was 5% attendance, 3 tests at 20% each, and 35% final.

The best professor I've ever had. No book, just clear, easy-to- follow, and all-inclusive lectures. Don't skip class and do the non-graded homework sets; the tests come directly from homework and the proofs provided in class. He tells endlessly endearing yet corny jokes. Easy class if you're committed and appreciate this inspirational professor.

SHOW UP TO CLASS! There's no textbook for this course. There's no mandatory homework, so your grade is pretty much 100% your exams. Very detailed lectures, makes funny jokes pretty often, and cares for his students a lot. You'll work for your grade, but you'll come out understanding the material very well!

He is one of the best professors I've had here at State. I will miss his classes because he is such a great professor and is able to hold your attention. You can see his passion for teaching and his field by the way he relates to us with real life stories. If I wasn't already in Engineering I would definitely become a math major because of him.

There are no words to describe professor Hong. His classes are an experience. He is very serious about you learning, but in a light-hearted way that makes you feel comfortable. He's passionate about preparing students to be future scientists/engineers, and makes sure you'll never be left scratching your head about anything. truly great teacher.

Dr. Hong wants all of his students to do well and he wants to make sure everyone understands everything at every point in his lectures. If he feels like people are drifting off or not paying attention, be prepared to get up in the middle of class and do some stretches. He is an excellent teacher and an all-around good (and good humored) guy.

Dr. Hong is passionate about his subject, and helping his students succeed, not just in the classroom, but in life. He takes things slow in class to make sure that everyone understands, and strongly encourages questions, and links strategies behind math problems in class to problem solving, team building, and such in the real world. Also funny!!!
