I had him at UWO as well and I found him to be difficult. He was always willing to help, but difficult to understand. I had a hard time grasping what he meant. He means well, but he is an awful professor. I don't think I could take any more of sleeping through class while he read the entire lesson plan off his power point. Nor was he an easy marker

I just had him a UWO and these comments are a little surprising. He's a friendly guy, and though his lectures were admittedly boring as all hell, he's not a hard marker. He seemed like a lovable, nerdy guy to me. I liked him. I would take a class with him again. Oh, and the exams were EPICLY easy. I mean it. EPICLY.

Rae should never be allowed to teach an intro class. As a CANS major, I swear, it gets better! Despite knowing a lot about a lot, he's a super pretentious, horrendously boring lecturer and everything is infused with his ideas on postmodernism. Exam was the most ridiculous thing I've encountered at university-- he expected essay-like citations...

Comment:
Rae is one of the most useless professors in a course I could ever imagine. His lectures have nothing to do with material on his quizzes. He thinks he is the smartest guy in the world and he marks like he's got something to prove. You will get nothing out of his class, and it is one of the least enjoyable class you could imagine. Don't take it.

There is a reason why so many people dropped out of the course at the beginning of the year. This guy is awful. Because this class is mandatory for anything in Canadian Studies..either a) he will be booted or b) the program will shut down. I am interested in learning about Canada, but this guy is the worst thing to ever happen to McGill.

Very helpful. TONS or reading to do for this class and he is kinda' slow at returning anything. You only have one grade returned by the time you are writing your final exam.

Ian Rae was a great prof - very knowledgeable, interested, and most of all, very helpful (outside of class especially). He is such a nice man in general. The exam was fair, and the two essays were choose-your-own-topic. The reading load was quite heavy, but all in all, a good class and good prof!

Rae is cute to look at but that's about it. Pretentious and insecure at the same time: awful combo. He needs to relax. His lectures are incredibly well-researched, but it's basically as though he's written an essay and is reading it to you. Over-sensitive, can be rude and belittling but is also super helpful outside of class. Give him a few years..

He is a really nice guy, but is very dry. What has been covered is so boring, and avoids the important, interesting things in Canadian history. I like the subject, but it's a dry class.

Oh God! Is he still around? I had him for Hemingway last year. He wasn't even trained to teach it; I don't know why they gave him that class. He was like a peacock: all fluff, no substance. I hear that his field is Canadian poetry, so maybe he's better at that.

Why was a Canadianist teaching a 400 level class on an American author?? Now I understand why he sucked. I wouldn't mind listening to him lecture on a subject he knows something about---but I would be too afraid to commit to a whole semester wit

Ego on two long legs. Superficial--I felt I knew more about the material than he did, yet he acted as if he was something hot.
