Every other week one chapter of the book he wrote is due with three questions a paragraph each on Blackboard. If you put thought into your responses and seem to understand the material then he will give you good grade. He lectures the WHOLE time but gives a a 5 minute break in the middle of class.

A very caring professor. Is more than willing to give extra help. What stands out about Dr. Silver from every other professor I have had is that he is solely dedicated to the subject he teaches and therefore is passionate and willing to dedicated as much extra time outside of the class on it. He is also willing to guide those who share the passion.

Easy online class, doesn't assign a lot of work. Pretty easy A if you keep up with what he does assign.

Hands down one of the best professors that I have ever had. He is very laid back and makes the class enjoyable. The class is mostly discussion based and the homework just consists of discussion boards.

Prof. Silver is one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares about his students and their success. His classes are interactive and interesting. He brings up topics that will benefit you in real life, so it's not just one of those boring classes you will never use. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to take a sociology class.

Overall Professor Silver is a really great teacher but there were a few issues I had when taking his course. I felt like he gave an overwhelming amount of reading to do. Most of the readings were 30-40 pages, he was very vague with his assignment instructions and always asked questions were worded weird so it was confusing. Is passionate though!

Professor Silver is a very knowledgeable teacher in what he teaches. He is very passionate about Sociology & engages every student in class to the point where you might also feel very passionate about social problems. He doesn't give you major homework assignments. Everything is do-able in his class as long as you participate and keep an open mind.

He was a great teacher. He always called on different people in class to make them talk. More like a seminar. No final, just a presentation at the end of the semester

This class was interesting. Ira is a wonderful professor. He made the class fun and interesting. He always picked on different people to get everyone to participate in class. He assigned three take home essays and an oral presentation. He is a tougher grader compared to most professors. You will need to elaborate on your topics rather than bs.

Extremely unfair in terms of grading. Very unclear prompts for take home essays. Asking for help is nearly required to do well in this course. I would not recommend.

Took online over the summer. TONS of work in the form of around nine to twelve discussion posts a week as well as comments for everything. As long as you do the work and say something insightful every once and a while you can do well.

.He assigns take home essays instead of tests.. but these essays are not an easy A. . For the most part, it was a really interesting class and I really enjoyed his teaching and the material we covered. Also, take his class in the fall because he cancels class on the Jewish holidays.

Very nice professor. He wrote his own book that we had used which i think made the class bias towards the organizations that we had used. He can be dry at points but you do learn a lot. His class will become divided by your opinion. I would suggest this course to people who want to take this nonprofit giving course that you will get frustrated.

Professor Silver is the best professor I've had at FSU. He's very clear in his lectures, all of which are never boring. The class is wicked interesting and is based off of 3 take home exams, in which he does grade fairly strict. Be prepared for lecture he calls on people randomly. Honestly though the readings are simple and hes the best!

class is based on discussion. grade consists of 3 take home exams which are straight forward, yet challenging at the same time. the class material was very interesting and because it consisted of discussion, it wasn't too boring. this is my second class with the prof and i've only gotten one A on his exam out of the 5 that i've written.

Love this guy, he's funny and runs an easy class. I was on my laptop most of the time, but if you put in effort on the take home essay exams (3) and talk every once and a while, you'll be fine. Easy and interesting course, I definitely recommend it. Do the reading, though, he compiled the book so he really knows what he's talking about.

thought i was going to hate this class, and now I am considering sociology as a minor. Silver is an amazing professor and this class is so interesting! Very little hw, 3 slightly large, but not difficult papers to write that determine your grade. Class is based around discussion of hw reading on social problems.

This was a really great class, something everyone can relate to and knows something about and Prof Silver always made it a point to help people who were unclear. But it was very easy to understand, the grade is based on take home essays, and he helps you write them in an in-class review session which summarizes everything. It was very good, FUN too
