Sperber is a really nice teacher and if you need help with anything, go to his office hours. He has no attendance policy, but if you don't go to class, you for sure won't pass. Show up, take notes, and you'll do fine. He also lets you redo assignments and is super caring about his students. No textbooks-just cheap books.

Memorize what is said in lecture by the all knowing professor and repeat these views verbatim on the assignments to ensure yourself an A in his course.

Im a senior and the lowest grade Ive ever gotten in ANY class at New Paltz was a B+. I BARELY got a C- in this class. The entire class was a platform for his political views with NO structure for what you're supposed to be learning. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

Interesting class lectures, choice of texts, and ample extra credit opportunities. I took Drugs, Crime and Inequality, and will take more classes with him next semester. I took the time to clarify some things, and have learned a lot from this man!

Sperber is a nice man, with a lot of knowledge on what he says BUT he does not know how to deliberate. His lectures are unorganized, and even fellow faculty members warn not to take him. I found this out too late, he does not take attendance but he does not know anyones name either, it is very frustrating being in his class. DO NOT TAKE SPERBER!

the best professor at new paltz. the man is a genius and the class was easy 2 short papers, a midterm (optional for extra credit), and a final. really engaging discussion and he WILL change your life. take him. do it.

Sperber is fantastic. He knows his stuff better than any prof. I've ever had, class readings were fair, attendance wasn't taken, and grading was based on a midterm and final. That being said, his lectures are a bit slow but necessary to attend because he pretty much tells you verbatim what you will be tested on. Highly recommend!

Genius. He has a bit of a slow pace in class, but doesn't work out of a text book or read word for word. He knows his stuff and is interested in it. Encourages class participation, gives the outlines for tests and doesn't pull things out of the blue. If you like sociology take him!!!!

This man is a genius. He knows exactly what he's talking about, and will tell you everything you need to know. The readings are fairly interesting, but he'll tell you everything you need to know for the midterm and final anyway. Those two grades as well as participation are your only grades. I highly recommend taking classes with him.

He is a very intelligent man, he will most definitely know if you did your reading or not, attendance is not a requirement, just do your reading and pay attention during the lecture. If you listen to what he is saying he basically GIVES you the answers to the midterm and the final. I found him to be somewhat boring but he really knows his stuff.

he is not entertaining but he is not a bad professor by any means. the bad comments anyone gives is only because these are students who can't pay attention.. hes a really nice guy, easy to talk to.. he doesn't care about attendance but if you show up every now and then, you won't even have to do the reading or anything.. its not that bad! relax!

I had Irwin for social inequality in the US and the whole class was based on 2 (mainly 1) book. But, if you go to class, you don't even have to read the book because he says the same thing EVERY class. Semi-Interesting, the midterm and the final were the SAME and he gave a study guide with questions that you could choose to answer for the tests.

I absolutely hated him.I took him for intro to soc. It was absolutely the most aggrevating and annoying class to go to. He was spaced out half the time, he kept rambling, he can't relate to his students. I S/U'd the class bcuz i couldnt take it anymore. AVOID ANY AND ALL CLASSES WITH HIM!!

He is a genius but just doesnt have any social skills. He goes off on tangents a lot and sometimes his way of thinking can be very funny, although i dont think he means it to be. His lectures are pretty boring. His class is easy to fail because there are only two tests, so do the extra credit.

Could never stay focused in his class. He didn't maintain good discussions and was just boring in general. He does provide a lot of opportunities for extra credit, but even that won't help you. I was taking an intro to sociology class with him and I can say that I did not learn one thing.

Some people cannot comprehend the material and are not smart enough to ask questions when they should. The material covered in class is an addition to the reading, you have to do both to keep up. Show he will be enthusiastic to speak with you more about it and you will learn something and extra credit is SO offered in every class, if not ask for it
