I have no idea how she has such a high rating on here. I was fortunately one of three students that were on her good side, but I still disliked her immensely. Not a single student in that class liked her, and there were at least 35 students. Stubborn, opinionated, and arrogant. Good example of a person that should not be a teacher.

Great teacher and very interesting this was one of my fav. classes. You do need to read the short stories but they are super easy reads and quick. Talk with her after class about how you think her class is really interesting and you will score some bonus points with her. Great teacher!

She is entertaining and gives examples relating to the subject. She is very clear on what is on the test. Just be sure to listen and give examples, and you'll do good on the essay. Also from her stories in the class, you can tell she has had some anthropology field work experience. It is good to know a teacher has an outside perspective.

NO TESTS. The "tests" are approx. 5 questions that you take home and write short essays on. No reason to fail. Pay attention, read the book, participate, and you should easily get an A. Lots of guest speakers. She has a good teaching style and has some interesting stories.

Jan Downey is a phenominal teacher. She is extremely nice. Easy to talk to and she knows her subject very well. She has been places and been a part of studies ans such so she has experience in the field. I have had a blast taking all her classes.

She made me interested in anthropology but I never knew what it was before. Teacher is great. There's a lot of homework though, writing weekly reports or something like that(can't remember for sure) But they are very easy and they prepare you for written exams(the more you write the better)
