She is really knowledgeable and passionate in her field, but she did not care so much about students who needed more help. Maybe that's because she has a lot to do outside of teaching.

She's incredibly smart and has a really fascinating outlook in the world. She will NOT let you go unchallenged if you say things that don't make sense/are wrong. Sometimes students who are used to being constantly affirmed take issue with this, but college is supposed to be about learning! If you can accept that and open your mind, you're golden.

I really disliked her at first because she talks a lot and will cut into time that she promises for discussion. I do wish she provided more time for discussion, but she has amazing things to say. She is helpful in office hours. Show her that you are engaged and follow her instructions and you should get a good grade.

Her lectures are interesting and entertaining. Her reading assignments are essential to her lectures. Keeping up with the reading is truly helpful! For this class, there were only a handful of assignments. So make sure to keep up with the material and understand as much about it as possible. I loved her class and she's hilarious! :)

She is a good professor but can be a little dramatic at times. She wants to persuade people so she uses certain tactics to scare people into agreeing with her. Very difficult to talk to one-on-one. But she is also really knowledgeable and teaches the course well

Great teacher--Kauanui is very clear in lectures and will allow discussion if it benefits the class. She is extremely knowledgeable on the topic matters and assigns pretty interesting readings. Definitely take this class for a fundamental but dynamic view at Race in the U.S.

K. is an intellectual and activist. Ze asked our class to read a lot, but actual written work was slim to none: the class revolved around engagement with the texts. You must develop opinions on the issues addressed. Everyone at Wes should take this class with K.; it will help you really to understanding racism. Finals and midterm difficult.

Kauanui's faces a lot of pressure in having to condense an entire field into one semester. Good balance of denser theory, historiography and ethnography. Using a writing tutor will make the class much less stressful, b/c JKK is dogmatic at times, albiet in a tough love sort of way.
