Dr. Rieger was my favorite professor at U of L. I attended every undergraduate and graduate class he offered at U of L in the late 70's. I graduated from U of L with a B.S. and M.A. in Sociology. I went on to pursue careers in Computer Science and Social Work . He is the best. You will not find a better friend and inspirational teacher.

I would say rieger is more grumpy than mean. This class was TOUGH. expect a long term paper about family rural history, & 3 very hard tests w/multiple choice, essays, short answers, & fill in the blank. You must come to class and take notes and read the text book. the random pdfs/ handouts he gives come secondary. avoid this class if possible.

Yes, professor Rieger will call you an idiot. He is hilarious. Very dry humor but hilarious nonetheless. He is actually not mean or rude at all. He knows his stuff and his class is very organized and informative. Few tests and one paper. If you show up and act enthused you will get a good grade.

Theres alot of ad hominim attacks on Dr. Rieger here. Thats totally unfair. He's a fantastic educator, gives engaging and memorable lectures, and cares about your academic achievement. Hes not "easy" bot how else can you grow without a challenge? Dr. Rieger provides an exceptional chance at growth and is one of my all time favorites.

Tough but fair. Answered my questions when I asked. You have to make it clear you're paying attention -- read the material. Actually read it until you understand it. If you're taking a 400 level course you're well out of highschool.

It has been a while since I had Dr. Rieger as a professor. I am happy to see that he is still teaching. Thanks to him I have been very successful in my applied research career. And, he has been one of the best profs I had in the US or in Romania. Thank you Dr. Rieger! RS

I totally recommend this professor if you enjoy having a rude misogynist for an instructor. He is absolutely hateful and he will tell you to your face he thinks you are an idiot. His thinking does date back to when he was in college in the 40s.

WORST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD, always unwilling to help. He favors me. After giving me an F on a term paper he finally met with me 3 weeks later. Sitting outside his office I heard him telling a professor he was meeting with an idiot. He changed my grade to an A after I showed him the section he completely failed to read, but never apologized for it.

Do Not Take. Lectures are unorganized, covers way too much material per test and he is a completely unhelpful, grumpy old man. The reading material is also poorly chosen, he doesnt teach along with the book well at all. He is very biased and crude with no attempt to cover for it. Goes off on tangents (and repeats the same stories every other class)

DR. R loves a select few students and hates absolutely all the rest of the world. If you don't make it onto his good list (and don't expect to b/c there is no rhyme or reason), you can expect the worst class of your life. I went to his office to discuss a giant paper and he was unhelpful and proceeded to insult me until I left his office in tears.

I love his stule of teaching and find his sense of humor very funny. If you get to know him, he is a funny guy and he really knows his stuff. I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in Sociology because he is a master of the field.

Dr. Rieger is a very dry professor. Class involves alot of note taking and reading of the Copp Textbook, which is very short, and basically goes along with what he says in class. Questions can be phrased difficultly, but last question is always the last choice!

He's a crotchety old man that needs to retire! When you ask him for a clue as to what may be on the test or a guideline of what to study--his answer is-your responsible for everything. He is not compassionate, and requires a "Short" 10 pg.research paper on geneology for this class. Also the book req'd.-Wisconsin Death trip is HORRIBLE!

Do not take this class! You go into it thinking it will be fairly easy, but it is anything but! His lectures have nothing to do with tests, and he mentions a 12 page paper the 1st day of class, never speaks of it again and expects everyone to turn it in the last day of class, with no instructions given. Terrible teacher, do not take this class!

Rieger is mean but fair. His main problem is that he uses reading material not geared for college students (academic journals) which makes some material impossible to self-teach. However, he makes up for it by grading on a mercy curve, thank GOD.

He told me I was fat and that I should lift weights like he did in college. Then he said that if I would study as much as I eat I would make a better grade in his class. After I started crying he told me that fatass crybabies don't belong in school and that I would be better off at a "retard-farm"
