I didn't do well, but it was because I slacked, not because it was a bad professor/class. Beuth is pretty good. Lectures can get confusing, but the book explains it well. It's just applied physics, so if you're not good at physics it might be a bit more difficult. Tests/quizzes are on the homework. Do your work, & you'll pass. Don't slack off.

He is a funny guy, always bringing in personal anecdotes to lecture. His class is a bit unclear; one day we are talking about stress/strain modulus, the next day he takes apart a car engine. Grading is incredibly slow, and there are very few test/quiz opportunities (1 quiz and 1 test + final for the semester). Tests straight from the homework.

He's an interesting lecturer and was very keen on bringing in hardware to examine (ex: engines, fridge, etc). He is terribly inconsistent with his grading though. I worked with my roommate on everything and sometimes our grades differed by 40%... So not right. Regardless he's an okay teacher.

Very good in Fundamental aspects of solid mech. Also, many tricky aspects related to practical applications and real life approach method to the problem are key learning I received. However, sometimes the questions in assignments are not framed in a easy to understand manner. One has to interpret what is he expecting. Grading is OK.

Beuth is a really boring teacher, the concepts of his class are very simple and he makes them more complicated than they need to be. Despite the simplicity of the class he is a tough grader and takes off points for stupid things such as unit conversions. He also fails to specify what he would like to see on assignments and you get punished for it.

Interesting beer and classic car anecdotes to illustrate MechE concepts. Friendly and reasonable in person. Fun mousetrap powered vehicle and wrench design projects. Coursework not so bad if you have a good grasp of physics 1.
