Jack is a fantastic professor. If you are willing to put in the time to really work to become a better player, there is no one better, imho. However, if you are not willing to work hard, expect a lot of headaches. The only reason you should be taking lessons from him is if you want to be the best you can. Not for slackers

Jack is a good clarinet player, but since he's technically retired, he has no interest in taking in musicians that aren't already virtuosos. If he doesn't like you, he will do whatever he can to get you out of his studio.

class totally uninteresting and he forgets that clarinet is not the world's most important instrument to play. gets mad when non wind players can not play as well as a high school student even though they have never played a wind instrument.

Jack is a great private lesson teacher. He provides really good ideas on how to make you a better player. He does have a certain way he likes things on etudes and such, but he lets you do solos the way you want to. Plus he is hilarious. People who dislike him probably aren't good players anyhow.

I really didn't enjoy taking lessons with this man. He doesn't let you have any creative leeway at all. If you don't play and act according to his standards, he insults you and tries to change you. He was one of the main reasons I dropped my major.

I couldn't stand him. He's the reason why I dropped music as my major. He kept telling me to change things without actually explaining why they were incorrect. I dreaded my lessons with him.
