Comment:
Professor Dorn is great. Despite the often boring content of this class, he usually tried to make things more interesting. If you aren't a good writer, though, beware: tests are essay, and there are two other papers. All HST 212 classes are structured like that, but Dorn grades strictly. But if you attend class/read the text, A's are very possible.

Very nice person. Class includes a lot of reading, and you have to go to class and take good notes. If not, you'll be lost on the midterm and final. Professor Dorn is easy to talk to and tries to get to know his students on individual levels. 2 papers, 1 midterm, 1 final, and attendance/participation.

I had him for HST 212 and did well. I had to drop one of his 400 level classes because it didn't fit with my strengths and it was more boring than watching paint dry.

Okay prof...Talks very quietly so if you want to hear him sit in the front row. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 paper and a participation grade. He grades for grammar also. Not a very difficult class, just utterly boring.

He is long-winded and drifts from the subject a lot. This, therefore, makes note-taking difficult! Grades are based only on two tests, two papers, and participation. Dorn grades papers for grammatical errors, so beware. If you don't like history, this class is torture!

2 papers, 2 tests, attendance, and participation grades. Nice guy, but teaches smaller upper-level classes better than large GE classes. Don't slack in note taking or reading.

It is easy for your mind to wander in his class. Some things he says are interesting. Only four grades - two essays and two tests so make sure you do the work.

I didn't know I was actually signing up for an English class? If he doesn't like how you write, then forget it. He's very smart and knows the subject, but he nitpicks papers for the dumbest errors. Not recommended.

worst class/professor ever. the syllabus should basically say that "my class is impossible." basically if you can't write a detailed historical novel on the information given you have no chance. i absolutely do not suggest or recommend this class to anyone.

not a fan. course objectives are not defined at all. wastes class time by telling long, pointless stories about his kids then even incorporates those stories into the exams. also speaks very softly.

Dr. Dorn has been my favorite professor at WSU. His classes are difficult, and even if your section isn't WI (expect it to seem that way), but he's always willing to provide extra help if you need it.

jack ass, it seems almost intentional, when we starts talking about some stupid story and then throws in facts that are on the test. "i remember when my daughter when to china..." *chuckle* and be sure u remember that because its a nessesary part of an essay question on the test. also he grades like an english teacher and has no interest in facts.

Mixed feelings here. I've probably taken 8 upper level HST classes and this was probably my least favorite. I think it was a mix between Dorn being a dry teacher and the New Deal being a dry subject and it being a 100 minute long class. I have Sherman and Winkler right now too, and Dorn is certainly the toughest of all three! Smart man though.

Just plain awful. In my fours years of college, I have never hated a class so much. Probably because I have never worked so hard and received such ridiculous grades. He even admitted that some grades were worse than others due to his being in a bad mood while grade some. Yeah, that's the kind of prof I want getting my tuition money. Thanks WSU.
