Comment:

Take a different elective. Not helpful at all when trying to ask questions... Asked if we had to remember specific number statistics (i.e. formulas, percentage of daily diet, etc.) and her response was "I don't remember" for the exam. Didn't buy textbook, but stick to the study guides. Assignments were vague with little direction.

The class sounded interesting, but don't let it fool you. If you can avoid this class, do so by all means. Or take it with someone else. A ton of information that you need to know for the exam, and the study guide is your best friend. thankfully i didn't read a ton out of the text book, but assignments were vague in direction and tedious.

The online class was Nutrition 4530 with HealthSciences. The class is online but she has in-person exams. She posts so many links for you to read and expects you to memorize everything. She is also rude. Her instructions on assignments are broad and when you do not do it correctly she leaves rude comments instead of trying to tell you what do.

Her online course is not set up well. She doesn't use the Dashboard to notify you of upcoming assignments. The way she set up the modules is also very confusing. Assignment instructions are not laid out well. She is also very rude when responding to e-mails - not helpful whatsoever. I would recommend taking anyone else possible.

This class was not that difficult. The assignments weren't that bad and as long as you studied, the exams weren't awful. Dr. Buell was very helpful and always eager to answer questions.

Probably the easiest class I've ever taken. Got a VERY easy 'A', and I can honestly say that I may have put in 8 TOTAL hours of work the entire semester (Summer '12- Online). Students who moan on this board didn't; read the material, look at the slides, follow the Carmen DISCUSSION board, hand in the due assignments. Plus there were bonus points!!

I took the online version of this class. Super easy, and she responds quickly to questions on discussion board. A lot of people acted confused about stuff but I never had any problem, just have to read through the syllabus and instructions. I only used the book twice, quizzes are easy & if you fill out the study guides exams can't be failed.

Super easy, just read the lectures and take all the quizzes a few times and go off the study guide and you'll be fine. I'm in the pharmd program and it was easy to work it around my other classes. Just make sure you take the quizzes until you get them perfect and you'll be fine. Easy A

Honestly, this class is easy if you put a little work into it. You must read & take the time to do the projects but it's simple and straight forward. If you don't like to read, then do not take. She answers questions but not really clearly. Her spelling is horrible in emails, discussions, and lectures. Overall, I recommend for last science

Very difficult to contact online or by phone. Evades answering questions directly. Can't commit to office appointments because she's committed to her other off campus job.Unconcerned about students. More interested in catching students cheating.By all means, take a different class !

Prof Buell is an asset to OSU. Never have I had a prof reach out to each of her students in the way that she has. I could see how some students will rate her poorly but that must simply be because they did not attend lecture;Prof Buell believes in giving time to those who have put in the time. Show you care and she will do more that that in return!

I almost didn't take this class due to poor reviews, but so glad I took it. Buell is very good at responding to discussion questions. A lot of students just ask every question that comes to their mind and complain about not being helped. Put in a little work, remember deadlines, and you will do just fine.

A good reason she is not tenured but here long enough to be tenured. Rude slow to respond crazy about academic misconduct. A student did not pass the extras down and threatened to call police and search everyone. Closed ended questions receive open ended answers. I.E. She does not answer questions

She does not have any regard for her students. Study guides replicate the exam so she doesn't have to interact with the students. If you can memorize the questions vebatim and ignore the high school histrionics you are in charge of your own grade. Simple as that. Each point is tallied by a computer or scantron.Smiles,words, understanding ABSENT !!

I think Dr. Buell does a good job. She is passionate about nutrition and wants the students to understand the material. She may come off as strict but I have never had a prob with communicating with her. Makes study guide that is just like the exam!!! TAs are useless though. Not bad for online class!

Comment:

The night of the midterm she bragged that "she busted someone" for trying to use a cell phone during the exam. She said she took the exam from the student and made them leave. Her obsession with student cheating rings is obsessive. Take this class from someone who cares about the content of what's taught.
