Comment:

Dr. Abbott means well but his Soc. Theory class was honestly the worst class I have ever taken. Exams are essays and he expects a full blue book, they are also worth a huge chunk of your grade. Material is very dull, but for most people its a mandatory class. The term paper is the worst. If you don't like essay exams do not take this class!

Dr. Abbott teaches his class like they're a performance. He screams his lectures and thinks he is being funny. In reality, he is unkind and inaccessible. He acts and sounds like he has been teaching for 1000 years and is completely unrelatable. He says he "won't bite" if you go see him, but is actually incredibly unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Comment:

Dr. Abbott was one of my favorite professors at Rowan. The material for his class can be dry, but his ability to make even the dullest readings and topics interesting is uncanny. Don't skip class, and ask a lot of questions if you don't understand the material. Just don't use your phone, do the readings, and participate in class and you'll be fine!

Dr. Abbott was a wonderfully engaging teacher. If I could audit, I would take anything he taught. I am not a great test taker, and 80% of your grade is midterm/final. DO NOT miss the day before the midterm or the final, or you WILL fail. That says, he is high energy, engaging, and funny. IF you are unclear, he WANTS you to ask, so DO IT!

Comment:

I took him for Soc. Classical Theory and he was SO passionate about what he teaches. He is also very funny and caring towards his students. This class has 10 reaction papers throughout the semester (they are only 1/2 page long) a midterm, final and term paper. The term paper is a bit confusing but he will help you if you are having trouble!

Dr. Abbott is hilarious and is probably the best professor I've had, by far the best in the sociology department at rowan. Only thing is, if you are not good at essay tests, be mindful of that. He gives a midterm and final, both essay and one paper.

A great enthusiastic professor for sure. this material is very boring but he can make it interesting. 10 page paper. worst paper I have ever done. he assigns midterm/final questions. reviews them. picks a question randomly so you pretty much have to study all. he pretty much expects a full blue book for each question. take him over any other

I took Professor Abbott for Soc. Theory and he's easily my favorite professor at Rowan. His lectures are entertaining and it really helps remember the material. He doesn't take roll but knows who shows up. Take good notes and study his review and you'll do great on the exams. He's extremely quick responding to emails. There's one rule, no phones.

Dr. Abbott is one of the best professors I've had at Rowan! Very passionate about the subject and hilarious. His classes are never dull! Come to class, stay off your phone, and take good notes and you'll be fine. His tests are mostly bluebook, so memorize your notes!

Took him for classical sociological theory. Best class I've ever taken. He is an amazing prof and dept head. Extremely helpful and a great lecturer. Never missed a class even though it was relatively early at 9:30. Super interesting, never a boring moment during his lectures. Everyone should definitely take him.

He is a great teacher who is passionate and enthusiastic about what he lectures on. When I had him, it was a very interesting topic discussing the relation between suicide rates and religions. Fare grader. Show up, record the lectures, do your work, and keep up with the readings and you'll pass!

Dr. Abbott is the reason I decided to become a Sociology Major. He is extremely passionate and energetic and he makes class a blast to show up and go too. He's incredibly intelligent and explains things so clearly and his tests are literally the review, so PAY ATTENTION. He's an amazing guy and I really admire him. Good sense of humor too.

Dr. Abbott is such a great professor. Dude is freakin' hilarious ! But His class was pretty interesting. he's such a passionate guy, and he's such a help to those who ask. Most passionate professor I've had! Lectures have the potential to be extremely boring but Professor Abbott keeps it interesting. Class is strictly notes & attendance. EXTREMELY PASSIONATE. He gets me excited about everything that he talks about. Engages the class fully! His classes are smooth and well constructed. He's also so funny, he can laugh at himself and it keeps the classroom happy. Taking this at 10:50 and I love it! DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!

One of the best professors I have ever had! Lecture is never boring, the 10 reaction papers are short and easy, exams are painless as long as you study, and the term project is awesome. If you want him to treat you like an adult, don't play on your cell phone during lecture. Best class I have ever taken! Highly recommend!

I have never had such a passionate professor. He really loves what he does and it shows! He's beyond brilliant and whether you wanted to take sociology or tot took if because you had to, you will LOVE IT. show up to class, don't be on your phone, and pay attention; you regret it.
